we can not thank Steve enough, we had are backs against the wall, new owners were getting ready to move in. son was going to help, but we all know how that goes.Steve gave us a reasonable quote, can back in about 45 mins and cleaned out furniture, trash at the curb, everything we wanted to be gone. they were fast, professional. He even offered to come back if my son didn't pick up his belongings and take them away at no charge. What more could a person ask for. Thank You Steve and Mike you were life savers.

He fixed a small hole in my wall. His work looked like nothing happened and was better than a lot of the patchwork that the landlord had previously done to the place before we moved in. He was also very fast!

The garage door opener pulled loose from the wall above the garage door. Kris came out and repaired the dry wall, then reattached the opener to the wall for me. Great work. Friendly service. Would definitely hire again.

The door looks amazing and Marcus had a difficult job getting through my cinderblock and brick walls. He did a fantastic job making sure the floor and the doorjam were flush. Now all I have to do is paint the area outside when the weather warms up. I would use him again especially if I decide to replace my windows.

Our experience with Tim and TMC was excellent. He was able to start on our exterior house paint within 5 days of signing the contract. The job was done right and fast. We are having all the windows replaced next week and he is going to send his crew over to caulk and touch up around the windows after the windows are finished. They also gave us a two year warranty on everything. Whenever we had concerns or questions, Tim returned the call or text within a few minutes every time. We highly recommend TMC and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Hands down a great experience. They showed up on time and worked all day without any delays. These guys take great pride in their work and it shows! They came and repaired a job that a previous previous guy left me high and dry on along with other things he never completed. I bought all of the materials and anything they needed extra they went and picked up and offered a reciept to show amount of purchase. I even had them do a few extra things around the home and they did it without a problem. I noticed a touch up and without any hesitation it was done that next day. They added trim around my backsplash to match the cabinets and even trimmed a bathroom mirror that was to big to fit the wall space that I bought at Ikea.Overall I would recomend these guys to anyone! Thank you again the house looks great!

Oliphant roofing replaced the flashing on the chimney and replaced the damaged dry wall on the ceiling near the chimney. They did an excellent job in a timely manner. The cost was very reasonable. I would recommend this company.

Alex and Josh were extremely professional! Tarps were put down from the front door all the way to the master bathroom! They fixed my subfloor properly, installed new plumbing for my drain and shower valves, poured a concrete custom shower pan and installed walls ready for tiling! Very hardworking professionals who generally care about you as a homeowner and the outcome of the job!

Cullen repaired part of a shower wall, part of the bathroom floor, and part of a ceiling below - all which suffered water pipe leak damage in a rental house I own. The job took 2 half days, as I recall. Part of the shower wall and the ceiling below had to be re-sheet rocked. Also, some of the shower wall tiles had to be replaced. The shower wall is tiled with early 1970's tiles which are no longer available. Since only the tiles around the faucet and knobs had to be replaced, Cullen searched hard to find something that would look acceptable, if not identical, to the remaining tiles. All turned out looking quite nice. It was a plus to have Cullen working on this project as the tenants speak Spanish - not much English - and Cullen is fluent in Spanish. Absolutely nothing went wrong and I would highly recommend Cullen.

I had a ceiling that was damaged and stained from a roof leak. It was a mess!! Coop & Sons came and did the job efficiently. When checking the ceiling and doing the work he brought to my attention a crack running across my wall over a door. I told him it wasn't a big deal. He said he would fix it and did. He also did extra work in my hallway that I was putting off. The place looks like new! I had no idea what I was really getting for the price. He kept an organized area and left the place extra clean. Amazing price, amazing quality, extra work, and very friendly. He will be doing all my other work in the spring. Thanks Coop!!

I had Handy Andy completely repaint the interior and repair the walls. They gave me a good price. They covered or moves everything as needed. Very professional! In this day and age you either get an expensive price and good job or a cheap price with bad workmanship. With Handy Andy you get a great price and great workmanship!

Tony hand built a beautiful stone wall for me for my daughter's wedding in my yard. He constructed a "dry" wall at the end of a eliptical formal garden. Tony is a perfectionist and did such a great job that I brought him back 9 months later (June 2014) to finish the complete elipse. Tony is honest, hardworking, dependable and talented. He does what he says he's going to do and shows up on time every day.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
