Slems Pet Care is the best thing thats ever happened to us. Donna & her caring staff have gone over & above what was promised since day 1. Above all, they CARE about my westie Tyson the same way I do and send me photos & videos and their response time is amazing when I have questions, she always responds right away. Donna makes me (& Tyson) feel lik family and I am SO very greatful to her for all the outstanding care she gives Tyson everyday. Dont know what wed ever do without her....weve used 5 other dog walking services for Tyson in his past in different cities & none of the others have compared to Slems....she is one in a million!

Sarah from Pet First Pet Care Dog Walking & Pet Sitting offers a phenomenal service!! She is quick to respond and very accommodating. She quickly connected me with Amanda her assistant who offered an equally phenomenal customer service. When your pets are truly your family, its tough to trust them to others, but this duo left me at ease & I was able to enjoy my trip out of town. I plan to begin using them regularly! I highly recommend them, and something tells me my two dogs do too.

Eve watched our two basset hounds for 6 days while we were on vacation. It was the first time we'd taken any of our pets to another home for pet-sitting. She did a great job with the dogs--when we got home, they were happy and had been well cared for. We will definitely ask her again next time we need dog-sitting.

Judy is the absolute best! We reached out to Judy because we needed a dog sitter because our puppy (a American bull dog/Pittie mix) had gotten a cold and we didn't want to leave her alone all day while we worked. Within 10 minutes of reaching out, we had an appointment for her to come meet our puppy and meet with us. And she was absolutely wonderful with our puppy! If you need someone to watch your pets, Judy is the person to call!

This was my 1st time leaving my dog and cat alone for an entire week. Emily was fantastic! She visited twice per day and she sent me pictures and videos everyday. I was happy that my furbabies seemed so happy with her taking care of them that it completely eased my mind. I will definitely be asking her to sit for me again when I'm out of town. The care she provided is priceless!

Iris looked after our 3 dogs for 2 weeks while we were on vacation. She did a great job. She was very professional: gave us timely updates, and kept the house very clean. We would happily use her services again, and I would recommend her to others.

We hired Scott to walk our two Australian Shepherds while Herman was still a young puppy. His service and attention to detail was outstanding. I felt that my pups were in good hands and it was nice to know that they were getting exercise during the day while I was at work.

I never thought of making this a business three years ago. I took in a very mistreated 4-month-old puppy and I've brought her a very long way, so I know what hardwork and dedication it takes to care and raise pets plus I'm a very dog friendly person.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
