FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
its very hard to give a rock solid bid until you are into the job, especially in some of the older homes. I've heard a lot of stories from previous customers that have called me in to fix other contractors mess and found that there's been some very dangerous sometimes situations left covered up such as the old knob and tube wiring being in very very poor shape that should have been upgraded or replaced or at least mention to the customer. if I find something dangerous that should be fixed repaired or replaced I will at least mention it to the customer and give advice and leave the choice up to them not to me. I've also heard of contractors telling customers that items needed to be replaced or repaired just so they can make extra money when in fact the item or area did not need to be touched it was in perfectly fine condition. I believe in communication I think it's key and I communicate with my customers a lot if I see something I show them and document it with pictures I think it's very important to keep the customer involved and keep them educated so they know what's going on with their home other than just coming in doing the job and they know nothing about what's been done what's behind the walls or ceilings or concrete or whatever but just to keep them involved so they know what's going on.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
my process with a new customer is when I initially get their contact information I will call or text them depending on their preference and try to get more information on what's going on and set up a time that we can meet and look at the issue and if we can agree on a price that's affordable to the customer we will set up the time and I will be there at that date and time to start the project and I will give them an estimated completion date unless something else is found that needs to be fixed or repaired. then approximately a few days later I will follow up to make sure that everything is still going okay nothing has been found no problems or issues just to make sure they're happy and follow up with them.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been doing residential construction since I was a little kid I have an older sister that is 10 years older than me and she got married when I was a little kid and they bought a very old home back from that late 1800s didn't have Plumbing didn't have a basement and we totally stripped it down I mean completely and put everything in it brand new floors walls beams underneath the floors Plumbing electrical we jacked up the house and put a full basement in the bottom and then built a detached two car garage after that after that they bought a new property and we built them a new home ourselves by hand completely from scratch using no outside contractors so I've been doing it since I was a kid until now which I'm in my 40s so I've been around I've seen it and done it all and I have a brother-in-law that owns a very large construction Company that does highways Bridges interstates very large projects which I used to do that for a couple years for him but that was not my style I love the residential style I like working with people different situations I love electrical Plumbing painting you name it anything in a home I love and I love working with customers and getting their ideas and opinions. I've taken construction management classes at Swic college, I've taken classes on reading nuclear density testing with a nuclear density gauge for testing concrete and asphalt I've done classes on aggregates which is rocks and the different makeup or compositions of The Rock I just have a lot of background and construction materials. I've taken my OSHA 30 safety course I upgraded that to an OSHA 40 card so I can teach others how to do things safely as well as a CPR and advanced life support teaching license so I can teach others and recertified nurses, and I was a paramedic firefighter before I had my kids when I had my kids my time pretty much dissipated so I had to make some choices and quitting the fire department and ambulance apartment was extremely hard because it's a brotherhood once you're in it's hard to get out of I feel like you're in it for life and I love helping people so that I think helps relate to my job and what I do because all of my customers I treat that way
