He was very easy to get a hold of and communicate with. When he came by, he was very personable and knowledgeable. It explained the issue with our tile in our shower and kept the repairs minimal and for a reasonable price. Overall I could not have asked for better experience.

I don't often need electrical and installation done on my home, but Roman with Roman Remodeling was fantastic. My wife and I had some bad experiences with other contractors but Roman made everything go smoothly. With his skills, experience, and knowledge, we were able to get our fan installation with no problem. This guy knows his stuff and he's incredibly professional and gets the job done all while being very personable. Great attitude, ability, and service.

There aren't enough characters in this comments box to describe the partnership we came to love with John & Mario. Their work is exceptional, their attitudes make you want to make them part of your family. John brings a strong consultative approach to his work, so much more than a painter. John & Mario renovated our entire home, paint, baseboards, marble tiling, front door replacement. Every element of their work was completed flawlessly. One evening (yes evening, at 10pm) while they were still working, they realized the paint in our daughters looked different than during the day light, so they added another coat as he wasn't happy with the results! We seriously cannot recommend them enough, words will not suffice... We have found a partner in this realm for life. I will never use anyone else.

My job of tiling and installing a vanity was more challenging than we originally realized and required several unplanned steps along the way. Mr. Endicott was very professional and kept me informed about all changes and what would be involved in terms of time, materials and cost. He finished the job that day as promised and the floor looks great, like a new bathroom. Based on the work he did for me I am happy to recommend him.

We called Mike to install a Tile floor in our kitchen (approximately 250 square feet). Mike showed up on time, gave us a fair estimate and began working shortly after. Mike did an outstanding job and exceeded our expectations. He worked quickly and finished the project in less than 3 days. The quality of work was awesome and we've received several compliments from family and friends. If you're looking for someone to assist you with your flooring needs, I'd highly recommend Mike and MB Installations for the job

We are so happy to work with Russ. He is professional, honest, skilled and explains things well. We are remote owners of a loft and were not able to go see for ourselves what repairs were needed. We got a quote from another company and it was outrageous. We found Russ on Thumbtack and he honestly told us that some of the work that the other company quoted did not need to be done. He gave us a reasonable quote on what did need to be done. I liked that he took time on the phone and explained exactly how he would do the work and which parts were needed. He was there when we he said he would be. He can do a variety of work from installing a ceiling fan, repairing a shower cartridge, replacing a kit in toilet, patching holes in wall and caulking. We are very pleased to work with him and will definitely keep working with him. I wouldn't call anyone else.

I had a remodeling project to completely refinish my kitchen, 2 bathrooms and basement. B&C Contracting was 1 of 5 quotes that I received. They were extremely professional being that they didn't just simply give me a random estimate but they came and looked at everything I was interested in remodeling. Overall, they responded with an estimate the same day and I decided to hire them. They were able to take out what was there prior, take out a few walls, add new lighting areas in my ceiling, put in cabinets, countertops and appliances, put up drywall, re pour concrete, put in my flooring, paint and do general carpentry. They also installed a few new windows and doors. The job was finished in a couple weeks and the update looks perfect. We will eventually add an additional garage and rehire B&C Contracting Specialist to do this project as well.

I was expecting to spend up to $7,000 to re-carpet my large living room and staircase. I called Michael Kurtz with Floor Coverings International and he came to our house with many samples. It's so important that I was able to see how the carpet would look in my home, not a bright showroom. The total for both areas was much less than I expected. The carpeting was installed in one day, which was very impressive. I would definitively work with Michael again.

I had Shane re-grout a bathroom in my house and put up some stringer stairs for my deck. He was good with communication about when he would do the work and how long it would take. The price was reasonable and the finished result was very good. I would definitely hire him again for future projects.

We had new kitchen cabinets put in and an island installed with a new backsplash.. Matt is very professional, knowledgeable, dependable and very helpful. Matt has gone above and beyond what I thought Our kitchen could be. Our new kitchen is absolutely beautiful and functional. When the countertop company came to install the counters they were amazed at the accuracy he took so that not one shim was used.

Abaco came out on a Sunday to perform work requested. Very professional and very informative. Extremely capable and able to assist in what was needed vs. what was identified by an 3rd party install of a Big Box Home Improvement Store. Abaco saved me from as unnecessary work, time and unneeded additional cost. I would highly recommend from both a service and trustworthiness perspective. Obvious that Abaco's motive was to serve me to the best of their ability and not ring up a bill.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
