Donna has been taking care of my pet for 18 months. She goes above and beyond the call of duty and I always feel that my animal is an excellent hands when I am either out of town or unable to get home in time to care for him properly myself. Her care is excellent and her prices are more than reasonable. Donna is reliable and has been incredibly helpful with last-minute needs.

Absolutely fabulous! I will definitely use them again! They were incredibly professional and really gave a personalized touch to everything! I had them do a few walks and watch my fur babies over the weekend while I was out of state. For those of you who are close with your dogs, you know you want to be able to trust the people taking care of them and with PFPC I had no issues. I got to meet my walkers beforehand and during my vacation was kept up-to-date on how my dogs were; it was wonderful and extremely reassuring. You can really tell their walkers love animals and it shows! After doing my due diligence on pet sitting/walking companies in St. Louis, I am so happy I ended up finding Pet First Pet Care. I expect to continue to use them in the future and highly recommend others do as well!

Eve watched our two basset hounds for 6 days while we were on vacation. It was the first time we'd taken any of our pets to another home for pet-sitting. She did a great job with the dogs--when we got home, they were happy and had been well cared for. We will definitely ask her again next time we need dog-sitting.

Sherry did an amazing job pet sitting my cats, Rosie and Joey. I had not left St. Louis in 14 years and was beyond anxious about my trip to Albuquerque. She texted me pictures and supportive words twice a day; I saw my cats and knew they were safe and well cared for, even during our recent "tornado". Thank you Sherry!!! You have my highest praise and I know you will be taking care of my cats in the future! Carol

I've used Judy for several needs: elder care for my 94 year old grandma, pet sitting, house sitting, and errands. Judy is professional, thorough, and affordable. Judy has high integrity and I entrust her with the care of my loved ones and my valuables. I have found no one better. She truly is my extra set of hands when I need it.

Iris is amazing! She loves animals and seems to treat each and everyone like her own pet. When she sits for my 2 cats, she always shows up with a toy for them. She also takes care of me-makes sure I don’t have to worry while I’m away. She sends a text as well as pictures while she is with them. If you use Iris as your pet nanny, your animal will be very well cared for!

Basia was great! I have never done anything like this before so I was a little nervous, but after meeting her she quickly set me at ease. It was nice to get away and not have to worry about my cat. I knew he was being well taken care of. I will definitely use her again and have no problem recommending her to everyone I know. She's a very sweet girl and someone I know I can trust.

About

I pet sit for multiple days in the customers' house so the pets do not have to be caged or be somewhere new and strange to them. I feed and walk pets when owners are at work for long periods of the day. I do not have set prices, so the customers can decide what they can afford to pay for pet care.

About

I have a lot of love to give to your pet. I can give medication. I used to have a farm, and I have a hands-on experience with all kinds of animals.

About

I would love to begin to walk dogs or pet sit. I am a single parent, with pets myself, (golden retriever, age eight), two guinea pigs and two hamsters. I am a counselor by trade, but love animals, and understand how working everyday can leave limited time to take care of the pets we love.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
