Quality Carpentry built a beautiful screened porch for me where I used to have a small deck. Did an Amazing job for a very reasonable price. Also poured a stained, stamped concrete patio next to porch which turned out georgeous as well!!! Would rate them 10 stars if possible. Very professional. Went above and beyond on every detail!!!!

Chris is a dependable, hard working contractor who exhibits an enormous range of knowledge regarding construction, redesign and materials. He is good about listening to the needs of the client and also rendering suggestions. He is prompt for appointments, and, if an unexpected situation arises he is great about communicating with the client. Chris was instrumental in completing a wide range of projects at my residence including the following: installed new kitchen and bathroom cabinets, installed a mosaic back splash in the kitchen, installed ceramic tile in my entry, kitchen and two bathrooms, completed various electrical and plumbing tasks, installed crown molding, painted doors and walls and put in a tin roof covering my back deck. His work was always completed in a timely fashion. The quality of Chris' work is what I would consider 'excellent'. There were no major mishaps or unexpected 'surprises' that were not adequately dealt with. My future plans to utilize Chris' expertise will include replacing the windows in my residence, and, installing a walk in shower in my master bath.

While consulting John about possible repairs to our old deck he pointed out how deteriorated the 38 yr. old supports had become and had he not done that we could have had a real disaster on our hands. We decided to employ John to tear down the old and build a new and improved deck and decided on using composite materials to cut down on maintenance. During the tear down we discovered just how correct he was in his initial assessment of the old deck's condition. After much assistance and planning on his part regarding wise use of funds on building materials we wound up with a beautiful and somewhat expanded new deck that we are very proud of. John shows up on time and works very hard all day long and will build to code and not take any shortcuts with obvious quality and pride in his craftsmanship. You cannot go wrong with JLB Construction.

We had Tim remove our old deck and build a new one...it is lovely. Tim updated some cabinets and removed the popcorn ceiling...wish it could have been cleaner...but there was no helping the mess...we are very happy with the end result. Finally, we completely remodeled our bathroom. It took longer than we expected...but again, we are very hsppy with the end result. Also, we had all of our bedroom doors replaced. His pricing was on target, his timeframe was a little longer than expected, but not to the point of frustration. They did show up nearly everyday and did work..somethings need drying time and so everyday attendance wss not practical. We are very pleased with the projects and Tims crew. We will use him again.

After seeing the job Curt did for my son, building a deck and a storage shed, I asked Curt to build my deck and pergola. It is beautifully done and very sturdy. From the bid to the end of the build, it was all done in a very timely manner.

We have hired Rob's team to do a metal roof on our place and fix a back porch roof that was just put on a few months back by a another contractor and when that one got done it was worse than what it was before so it had to be totally redone. Rob did the rebuilding of it and it is totally awesome. He has a great bunch of workers, all very polite and courtesy. He also powerwashed the deck and restained it and it looks like a new deck. Thanks guys you are all totally awesome, makes me have confidence in hired workers again.

I asked Nick about building some benches for my back porch. The next day he had the plans drawn up and started working on them. We went from seating for 4 people to seating for over ten people. He knows what he is doing and is very professional.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
