Steve provided me with tutoring services for the GRE. I was very nervous about the GRE because math has never been my strong subject. I made an appointment with Steve and described what I was trying to accomplish (i.e. pass the math portion of the GRE!). I brought a number of problems and math areas that I was having difficulty with. We went over each and Steve did a great job explaining it in a way that made actually made sense. Once we exhausted my questions and concerns, Steve created new problems that were quite helpful. The funny thing is after all that practice I actually scored higher on the math portion of the GRE than the verbal! Long story short, Steve was a huge help and provided a positive (and at times fun) session. I took the GRE, was accepted to graduate school, and am actually in class right now!

My son was VERY RESISTANT to the idea of a math tutor. Within the firstt 15 minutes of working with Steve, my son was thanking him for explaining areas of algebra that had confused him! Resistance is GONE and my son, who HATES math is looking forward to more sessions with Steve! THANK YOU!

Steve is an outstanding tutor. He is very polite and accommodating. My son responded very well to his teaching style and improved his grade in Algebra 2 immensely. I would recommend Steve to anyone looking for a quality math tutor.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

With all of my students, I work to build my students' mastery and grasp of their course material, be it geometry, calculus, GRE math, or any other math course. I like to work with examples, actual problems. Exposure to more and more problems and to new situations and perspectives is essential. During our sessions, I'm all the time keeping blank paper on hand and generating additional practice problems to solve. As often as possible, I like to leave my students with a few problems for them to work on their own between our sessions. With all of this, I'm not just teaching math, but my role is also that of a coach. Almost all of my students have real math potential within themselves, and half of my job is building their confidence in their own abilities.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Recently, I reached a significant milestone of success with one of my younger students. Jake, and 8th grade Algebra student, had been struggling with math for over a year. As we began to work together, the quality of Jake's written work and the maturity of his approach to his math studies gradually improved. As he became more and more confident, and as his mastery of course content improved, Jake's quiz and test grades also improved. After several months of working together and experiencing gradual improvement, Jake achieved a remarkable success... placement on the High Honor Roll. He devoted a lot of hard work and dedication to earn this status, and I'm very proud of his success.
