I felt comfortable with Asha the moment I met her. She took the time to learn about who I am and how I'm hoping to grow as a writer and as a human being. Her enthusiasm for the work is contagious! After our first meeting I found myself writing 3 consecutive days in a row...something I haven't been able to do for 2 years. I am delighted to work with Asha and am thrilled that she is in the world offering us her gifts.

I have met with Linda on multiple occasions as I am in the process of making a career change. The first time we met we went over resume writing, and with her help and guidance we put together a new and updated Professional resume. The second time we met was for Career Coaching. Even though I am of the age group of millennials, I have no experience in using the internet in reference to job searching and networking. She was very influential in helping me make a LinkedIn account as well as an account with Indeed and uploading my resume. She has even offered to help me with role playing interview questions once i get an interview. With her guidance, this entire job searching process has been a lot less stressful. She has even helped my wife with Career Coaching and Resume Writing. My wife has said over and over that Linda's interview prep was harder than the interview itself. We would recommend Linda to anyone who is looking for help with finding a new job.

Debbie helped me refresh my personal brand by updating my resume. She was able to consolidate my rambling thoughts into powerful statements showcasing my strengths and successes. She was quick, funny, thorough, thoughtful, and professional. I've recommended her to many contacts since then- I think her talent is second to none!

I hired Bruce Davis and Around HIS Image Publishing to publish a book for me, a novice writer. After making a few other contacts with less than desirable results I made contact with Bruce Davis. I had no clue what I needed to do except write but he and the Around Him team made it an awesome experience, holding my hand throughout the entire process. With God's confirmation we've been working together and I have nothing but admiration and respect for him as a person and business man. If you find yourself in need of a marketing company or publisher he is the right person.

I was impressed with Brenna’s editorial professionalism and how quickly she returned my novel edited for grammar, style, and clarity. She gave me concise content notes, and even took the time to point out bad habits in my writing that I continue to be mindful of. She was easy to work with, and I could tell she genuinely wanted my work to be the best it could be. I recommend her services to creative and technical writers alike.

Anna worked with my son to prep him for the new SAT this past spring. She worked with us to meet in a mutually convenient spot, and was always flexible with scheduling. Our son needed the most help with the essay, and Anna spent hours prepping him on how to brainstorm, organize, and write the essay on the SAT in such a short amount of time. She also helped him with the reading and writing sections by identifying his strengths and weaknesses, and helping him figure out the best strategy to beat the test. We will definitely be using Anna again to tutor in English next school year!

Krithika is an excellent tutor. She knows all the conventions, rules, expectations, and online resources for topics of high school writing such as critical thinking, literary analysis, research papers, SAT prompts, and college admissions. Like her profile says, she brings passion to the subject. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious, so not only has my son’s writing improved, but so has his interest in the subject. She’s an excellent communicator who can connect with the student as well as mediate with the parent. I am sure her advice and guidance are going benefit my son for the rest of his life.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

      • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
      • Strong writing skills.
      • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
      • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
      • Expertise in your target area.
      • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

      • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
      • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
