5 Biggest mistakes when Moving When moving in NC, one should know that Moving is a regulated industry. Each licensed moving company is required by the North Carolina Utilities Commission to adhere to the rules and regulations. These rules and regulations are written and enforced to ensure both parties are protected. Years of unfortunate circumstances are the culminations of the rules and laws in place today. In order to help you have a better moving experience, the 5 biggest mistakes a mover in North Carolina can make is listed below: 1. Always request a ÂBinding not to Exceed EstimateÂ. When an estimate is requested, the carrier is required to inform the customer of their 3 options: 1. Non-Binding 2. Binding 3. Binding not to exceed. With a binding not to exceed estimate, the rate will be reduced based on actual time moving by 15 minute increments, but cannot increase more than the quote provided. 2. Additional protection  Do I buy it? Most carriers will push charging the additional value protection, but should the customer buy it? Check with your homeownerÂs policy to see if youÂre insurance covers loss or damage during a move. Most do! 3. Not reading your estimate and not asking questions? Your move could be going really well and no items get damaged but at the end of the move you found out it took longer than estimated and your bill was higher. Your pleasant move just became a bad one because you did not read your estimate and ask the right questions. (This is a great reason to ask for a ÂBinding not to Exceed estimate. 4. Did you test your washer and dryer after the movers hooked them up in your new home? Have the movers wait until the washer and dryer have been tested and there are no visual leaks. This protects both parties from potential damage. 5. If you are moving appliances, and are relocating to an older home, have you checked out the electrical receptacles to verify compatibility? Many times customers will move appliances to save money only to incur additional cost for electrical work. So keep these 5 items in your mind when you request your estimate and donÂt hesitate to ask. Asking question will take stress out of the move. Happy moving!!!
