How does your service stand out?

I pay close attention to small details. Including cutting door jambs and trim work for wood install and using power stretchers for carpet install. I also work hard to help you save money. Tips like tearing out your own carpet can save you big money. Unlike others, I don't want to leave you broke after new flooring.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy being able to save homeowners money. I love to have my clients glowing with pride after they see their new floors. I take pride in the fact that all my clients are able to refer me to their friends with peace of mind that they will be completely satisfied as well. New flooring can change the entire look of your home, and the fact that you allow me in your home to install it makes me feel like I have accomplished something at the end of the day. No one takes pride in their work like I do. You may notice a negative review about our company. Please understand that we went above and beyond to make this client happy. We charged her $500 for flooring installation and refunded her over $700 because she was not happy. She then took us to court and drained us of another $2600.00 because we didn't have the time to fight with her. As if that isn't enough she has attacked us on a business and personal level all over social media and the internet and in our personal lives. All of our good reviews speak for themselves. There will always be that client who you cannot make happy and we found her. She also has spent 3 or 4 years making another flooring company in South Carolina completely miserable because she was unhappy with them as well.

We hired Burgess Flooring to install bamboo in our basement. They were able to fit us in their schedule quickly and did an Amazing job! The workers were all friendly and professional. Our new bamboo floors look Awesome!! We will be updating the floors on our main level soon and I am so glad we found someone we can trust to be upfront on cost and get it done right.

We used them two different times and both times they did amazing work!! The first time was putting vinyl planks in our kitchen, dining room and laundry room. They finished it all within a couple hours and it really transformed the house. The second time was when we had carpeting put in throughout the house and the vinyl planks in the bathrooms. Tina helped us pick a carpet that would look good and be cost effective since we were listing our house for sale shortly after. We are still amazed that Joe and his two helpers were able to do all the carpet, vinyl planks and quarter round in a day!! Thank you Joe and Tina!!! We will be calling you shortly to get new carpet in the new house!!!!

Joe and Tina were a pleasure to work with. This was my first home and I was so overwhelmed when it came to changing the floors to what I wanted and understanding why other companies cost so much. Tina took the time to assist me with purchasing my carpet, and took many phone calls from me about the laminate I was desperately seeking out. Joe and his crew were clean, respectful of my belongings, and stayed on schedule (which is a dream in construction). This team is extremely knowledgeable and down to earth, and I have already referred him to several co-workers looking for new flooring. The wood laminate looks wonderful, as does the carpet in the living room, hall and stairs, and I was able to save some money. I am now looking forward to him installing tile in the kitchen soon!

Joe botched our hardwood floor installation on 11/20. Contacted Tina on 11/21 about the boards being shifted and large gaps throughout half the floor. They blamed the problems on bad milling and said they'd hold the check. 12/5 the check was cashed "accidentally" and wood was on order. 12/17 I contact - still hadn't ordered wood. 1/6 I contact - still hadn't ordered wood. 1/13 I contact - still hadn't ordered wood. January deadline given. No contact again until 1/27 when the flooring inspector I hired calls her. Report found that Joe installed wrong, voided my warranty, and that the entire floor needed to be replaced. 1/28 tina admits they were liable, says she'll pay for the replacement wood. 2/5 sends refund for installation and only $700 of $2300 in replacement wood stating that they decided that was a fair amount.
Anyone can contact me for a copy of the flooring inspection or conversations. Joe is a sloppy contractor and they don't stand behind their work at all. They had almost three months and didn't even order wood, then got mad at me for hiring an inspector that proved not only were they at fault but that their original plan for repair was insufficient. Tina also lied in her response to my facebook review then blocked me so I couldn't respond. Photos of their horrible work can be found on my Angie's List review.

Joseph B. from Burgess Flooring replied to this review on April 30, 2016

When the check was accidently cashed, Mrs. Peterson contacted us and I immediately contacted my husband. We reviewed our deposits for that day and yes, we had cashed the check I tried on several occasions to meet with Mrs. Peterson to refund the $500 we charged her, by check or cash and she finally said not to worry about it.
As far as the install, Mrs. Peterson spent a lot of time researching the wood she wanted to purchase. She sent me a link to the wood she wanted and it was being sold at Lowes for nearly $15 per square foot. She found it online from a store in Alabama for under one third of the price. I warned her to be learly of such a good deal. Later we found out that this company does not ever see the product they sell. There is a salesperson that works from home at a computer and processes the orders, everything is done online, nothing is ever done in a store. The salesperson stated he lived 2 hours from the actual flooring store and never even goes there. Next, Mrs. Peterson received the product she ordered, which arrived with 10 opened or damaged packing of the wood. She noted this on the receipt she signed. She NEVER told us she accepted wood in this condition prior to install. It CLEARLY stated on their website to REFUSE any wood that arrived with opened or damaged packaging, yet we were not informed, ever. When Joe arrived to install her flooring he did not have any barrier to place on her subfloor. They had a conversation about this and he asked her if she wanted to run to Lowes, literally 10 minutes down the road, and purchase the barrier. She asked if she needed it and he told her he has installed them before without it but it would void her warranty and she told him she didn't want to buy it and go ahead with the install. Next, during the install Joe noted to her that the boards were not going together well and also that her subfloor was uneven in places due to settling of the house in some areas and none in other areas. She looked around, told him everything looked great and instructed him to keep going. At that point she left. When she returned Joe showed her around the install, she said everything looked great and paid him. We were only hired to do the floor install. She chose to do all the trim pieces, quarter round, and even told him not to reinstall the vents because she didn't want to reuse the ones she had. She never completed any of these things. She later contacted me and said there was a board she was unhappy with and I told her Joe would come and replace it, no big deal. Later, when her "husband" arrived home, they got a spotlight and got down on their hands and knees to examine the floor. They found more areas they were not happy with. I told her I would come and see what her concerns were. This took almost a week to schedule with her. By then time we arrived she already had nicks and dings in her floor (she operates a pet sitting/rescue service from her home (which voids her warranty anyway)) and had still not installed her transition strips, quarter round, or vent covers. She pointed out many things she was not happy with, including the random size boards Joe cut to complete the installation, which is protocol. I suppose we were supposed to get her approval of what size board lengths she wanted. I then offered to have Joe come back, remove all the flooring, install a barrier, and reinstall the wood. She was perfectly happy with that solution. I told her we should order a couple of boxes of wood in case any were damaged during removal and she agreed. I tried to order wood and the company she ordered from did not have it in stock. they also informed me that they could probably get the wood free because there were milling issues with the wood. I then told Mrs. Peterson what was going on and she said okay, and I also told her we were going out of town for a week. She said not to worry about it, enjoy our vacation and we would handle it after the holidays. Fast forward to January. The company still had no stock of the wood and we worked together trying to find the best solution to the problem. When the company that sold Mrs. Peterson the floor found out that she accepted the wood in a condition that should not have, they said she should never have accepted the delivery and that it most certainly should not have been installed. Now remember, she never told us that the boxes were accepted by her open. We found this out when I asked her for the company info to order more wood. He said that he could have all ten boxes replaced. I told him that was probably best, and he said he would look into it, but the wood was still unavailable. Mrs. Peterson was fine with that. This process took some time and Mrs. Peterson became irritated and told me she no longer wanted to wait. I called the flooring company again to find out what happen during his inquiry and her told me that I would have to buy the new wood and he could then file the insurance claim and I would "most likely" get a refund on the new wood purchased. I told him I was not doing that. I should not have to repurchase and wait for a possible refund. I told him that I would purchase new wood and get this over with. Still not available. Apparently this wood was being discontinued and they were awaiting the last of the shipment. I informed Mrs. Peterson that I would not be waiting to get free wood, but it was still not available. Mrs. Peterson found the wood available before I found out and informed me that she ordered the wood for replacement and asked how I would like to pay her for it. I asked her for the receipt from her ordering it and she sent me a screenshot of a shopping cart. No receipt, a screenshot of an unpaid shopping cart. Mrs. Peterson in the meantime hired a flooring inspector that came out to her home and then contacted us for "our side". We explained everything and how it went down and said he would submit his report to her. She demanded we pay for the inspector. When I received a copy of the inspection report it contained a lot of pictures and problems. The most important thing was that there was no underlayment installed, which automatically put us at fault for the floor. We have now learned a very hard lesson and that is we CAN NO LONGER try to accommodate our clients because in the end we got burned. The installer is always going to get blamed. We told her she needed underlayment and she didn't want to go buy it. We told her her subfloor was bad, she didn't care. She has even had a new floor reinstalled over the same bad subfloor which was noted in the inspection report HAD to be repaired before a new floor could be installed. She to this day maintains that the subfloor is "fine". Mrs. Peterson hired us for a $500 install which was refunded, and now we have reached the end of the process and she is to receive a total of nearly $3500 in money we paid her. Yes, we were paid $500 and she received almost $3500 back. She has blackballed us on every forum she can find and has even contacted companies we do business with trying to get them to stop doing business with us. She is making it her personal goal to ruin us. She accepts no responsibility for her decisions and maintains that we are horrible people who do horrible work. We have been installing in Charlotte and the surrounding areas for nearly 18 years. My advice to anyone in any field is to avoid accepting her as a client. Based on what we have experienced with her, she doesn't tell the whole truth, only the parts that benefit her side, she only posts pictures that she thinks support her theories and she made our lives miserable and is continuing to do so. I am sorry that you all have to read a book to figure out that some people have no morals and will try to eat you alive.

The first job that we had Burgess Flooring install was for laminate floor in our Master Bedroom. They arrived on time with their appointment; were in and out in no time at all and did an excellent job. Because we were so pleased with their expert installation, we recently used them again for more laminate flooring for our hallway and living room. Great Job !

We had vinyl planks installed, the click lock kind since we have dogs who make big messes. It is beautiful! It looks like a hardwood floor, but more pet friendly! It was confusing at first since I decided I would buy the materials and let them install, but once we got that settled, I couldn't have been happier with the results. Burgess Flooring is the way to go! I would recommend them to anyone. Hope I can call them back for future flooring!

Burgess was a pleasure to work with. The experience started with a very easy and thorough quote process. The quote included a complete breakdown of services so we could decide where we might want to save money by tackling some of the prep ourselves. Once we settled on the material we were provided with a shopping list. Numerous questions were patiently and happily answered. Finally, the install was efficient and professional. We are extremely pleased with the final result. They were half the price of competitive quotes. I will recommend Burgess to any friend who is looking for a flooring install.

We hired Burgess Flooring to complete a large (approx. 2,000 sq ft) hardwood floor install and we are BEYOND satisfied. They needed to tear out multiple different types of flooring, move heavy furniture and install new flooring. They were easy to communicate with, punctual, and their workmanship is INCREDIBLE. The floors are perfect and the finish work they did for us went far above and beyond. We were a little concerned that the incredible price savings would show up in workmanship but that is NOT the case - fantastic work. We will use them for more of our flooring needs and I would recommend them highly for hardwood installs.

Joseph B. from Burgess Flooring replied to this review on October 22, 2014

I apologize that we did not meet your expectations. There are several reasons Joe has not gotten back to you. First, we are a husband and wife team and I have been ill all week with a severe upper respiratory infection with laryngitis that has left me in bed for several days unable to carry my end of the business and leaving the burden of the business on Joe as well as our personal life with 4 children. More importantly, Joe has been trying to find the correct flooring to match the existing flooring you have, waiting on a Mannington rep to follow up with us. Lastly, he was researching any issues he may come across with the polyurethane type coating that was put on the VCT and whether or not anything that leaked beneath the existing floor would need to be removed prior to installing the new flooring. Again, my apologies that we did not meet your expectations and I hope your fair better with the installer you choose.

Today Joe finished the tongue-n-groove pine ceiling in my sunroom. Over the last few weeks, Joe has installed around 700 sq. Ft of bamboo flooring and new bamboo stairs.
His work speaks for itself. I started with a small dining room to make sure I was happy with the work. Then I had him move on to more flooring, stairs and ceiling.
I am picky and appreciate quality.
    Joe completed the work beautifully.
He always showed up on time, ready to work, and cleaned up everything at the end of each day.
The email quotes breaking down the charges is helpful.

I will continue to use Joe for upcoming projects.
His quality and work ethic are outstanding.
The only recommendation I can give is to have all your questions and estimates emailed. His wife Tina handles that and was very helpful in finding local resources.

Joe is absolutely amazing. My husband and I contacted many companies for quotes on our floors and all were outrageously priced. Joe came out within two days and gave us a quote and even provided us a list of the materials we would need to order to complete the job. His price by far beat out the competition and was very reasonable for the 1100 sq ft we wanted laminate installed on. Burgess Flooring got back with us always within a few minutes of contact and answered any question we had. We originally were quoted a two day completion time for the project. The day before we were scheduled to start, I gave birth to my daughter and we brought her home the day they started the project. Joe and his team worked so hard to complete this project as fast as possible and completed it a 1/2 day before scheduled. They even went as far as bringing flowers to congratulate us on our new addition. The craftmanship was amazing as well....my husband (who is very picky) could not find one thing wrong with any of his work. This company went above and beyond to not only provide quality craftsmanship but to adjust to make our transition into a family as smooth as possible given the circumstances. I cannot say enough wonderful things about their customer service, their craftmanship, or the fact they are just all around wonderful people. They are certainly worth every penny and more and we feel so blessed to have chosen them to complete this project for our home and family.

I believe they tried to overcharge me. I had 284 sq feet to have wood flooring laid. I was quoted $1.75 to remove carpet and install wood. Halfway through job I was asked to go purchase more nails as he ran out. I refused. Secondly, he tried to charge me for 320 sq ft due to all the boards he damaged. I purchased extra and he used almost all of it due to scratching pieces, incorrect cuts and poorly placed nails. We argued over this until he gave in and charged me the original price. Had I not challenged him, he would have charged me an extra $200 plus the cost of nails. The quality of his work is ok. There were several pieces installed with scratches, but for the most part it looks good. I have always paid for true square footage when having carpet, tile or wood laid.

Joseph B. from Burgess Flooring replied to this review on October 9, 2013

First of all, in all flooring jobs there is what is considered waste. This is wood that is handled and cut and pieces are installed and there is waste from those pieces. Otherwise, you would have a room full of boards all the same size. We charge for wood that is handled and cut. That is what you were being charged for, not to mention the area that was added after the original quote that was given. We have always charged for the amount of material that is handled, including wasted material. You don't challenge the company that sells the waste, why would you challenge the company that installs the waste? You are the first client that has ever "challenged" our pricing. When we give an estimate, we provide a shopping list of materials needed for install. You were located out of state and we were not involved in the process of purchasing materials needed for install. Part of materials needed for install are nails. That is why we tell our clients we are an installation only company. Joe tries to catch any pieces of wood that may contain scratches prior to installation, but he can't catch every one. We pride ourselves on our reputation, which is outstanding.

I had burgess flooring come out and install 760 square feet of laminate flooring they did a excellent job very professional. His rates were real reasonable. They cleaned up well after themselves. I have since had him come back and do two more rooms. I have gave his info to several other people all were pleased with there work.

Question and answer

Q. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

A. We start with determining what type of flooring fits the needs of our clients and their lifestyle. We measure and provide a shopping list for our clients. They shop at their leisure and once they secure their flooring products we schedule an installation date.

Q. What types of customers have you worked with?

A. Our services are, for the most part, installation of pre-purchased wood flooring. Some have already done tear out and disposal, others have not.

Q. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A. Make sure when hiring for flooring that is is a specialty. Not a handyman service. There is a difference. Never pay by the hour for flooring, it could end up taking a week to install. Make sure they are insured.
