Mr. Blue knows taxes. We needed a local CPA after relocating to NC. His experience and expertise speaks for itself. He was timely in all communication, and made the tedious tax process hassle free. He assisted our high income family with complex financial moves, saving us from significant tax consequences. I highly recommend him for personal/small business accounting services.

4 years of Federal and State (NC) taxes completed in record time with no hassles. Max stars is 5 but that seams to be to low. I know I will be coming back to Cox Accounting and Financial Services for my taxes and for all other financial services in the future. Cannot express how satisfied I am with the services provided and also cannot stress strongly enough how much I recommend this company to anyone and everyone who is in the market for any service he offers. That James was/is a Marine should not be held against him...:)

Less Back Office is an incredible resource for any small business. Their attention to detail and outstanding customer service has made our lives so much easier. They organized and streamlined our processes and are responsive, engaging, helpful and accommodating. If you are looking for top-notch bookkeeping service, look no further. The owner, Kevin Shoaff possesses excellent management and leadership skills. He has made a bookkeeping company for any business that is running 100 mph with little allocated time for accounting. They take the data (generated by your incoming and outgoing money) and turn it into information you can make decisions with. I've enjoyed all of my interactions with Less Back Office and highly recommend them for any business looking for a partner to reduce the administrative efforts of Accounting, Banking, Payroll and Invoicing. Kevin and his team have allowed us to focus our attention on operating and growing the business.

I have a small business with 8 employees. I'm a salon owner and operator. On the accounting end, things can be overwhelming. However, Pamela Hankerson's have managed to keep me on track with my business. She's effectively form a partnership with me to become my main trusted advisor. These are the following things that gives me confidence with Pamela as my accountant: she examine statements to ensure accuracy; ensure that statements and records comply with laws and regulations; compute taxes owed; prepare tax returns; ensure prompt payment; inspect account books and accounting systems to keep up to date; organize and maintain financial records; improve businesses efficiency where money is concerned; suggest ways to reduce costs; enhance revenues and improve profits; provides auditing services for businesses and individuals. I'm very thankful for Pamela, she has given me peace of mind when it comes to my business...

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

    What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.
