They did an excellent job. I had leaf clean up, shrubbery/tree trimming, and overgrown area cleaned up. They worked hard and fast. I would definitely recommend them for any yard work.

Jaime responded right away to my request and came out the same day to provide me a quote. His price was reasonable and he did an amazing job. He cleared a large area in the back of our home that was full of trees and tree stumps. He also cleared all of the leafs and gathered all the large rocks for me in one spot. Jaime was knowledgeable and gave me other ideas for future landscaping projects. Highly recommended.

I had overgrown weeds and grass in my yard...it looked like a jungle. Larry and his partner took on this huge task and did an excellent, neat job. They restored everything to its original beauty in a professional, timely manner. Larry and Debbie are very nice, understanding people and their services are quite reasonable. I highly recommend D & L Lawn Services to everyone and will be using them from now on. It is refreshing to find such honest, hard-working people who really care about their customer!

Diego came to give my lawn one last cut for the season. He did a beautiful job. He even blew all my leaves to the natural area and trimmed all the rugged areas where tree roots and terrain prevented mower access. I will hire him for all my lawn care next spring!

Great working with Rob and his crew. My fence went up (in Chapel Hill) in record time, and it is perfect. Rob was also able to accommodate several other last minute requests for other work on my property including tree and garden work, expansion of driveway and building a shed to accommodate trash containers-and I am so pleased with all. Rob was always pleasant and respectful and a pleasure to work with. Would happily hire him again in future. Thank you JWE Designs!!

Gonzalez Tree Care Inc. is well organized, very experienced and fully equipped to handle small and large tree trimming jobs. After buying a house with thick rows of trees on 2 sides and along the front drive last year, I estimated that 4 trees would have to be trimmed this summer. Brian explained during the estimate that removal at the base was the only solution for some trees growing toward the house and over the driveway, and he showed how other trees would soon overgrow. I gave him the job because I wanted the results to last. Brian marked every target tree the day before. The 6-man crew cleared the large trees that were brushing the house in back and cut back multiple small trees and vines on the side and front. They hauled away all the wood and blew leaves and branches so the yard was clear afterwards. Later, I watched a security camera video documenting a TALL tree falling at a perfect angle into a narrow space to the side of the railing by my porch stairs. A less experienced team would have damaged the porch stairs by misdirecting the tree by a few inches. These men are real pros, and thanks to their expertise and hard work, my yard is now under control.

No matter what landscaping job I hire Jerell to do, he always does a first-rate job! Tree- trimming, lawn mowing, mulching, he does it all. My back yard was in awful shape and by the time he was finished, it was among the best looking in my neighhood! Dependable, professional, a background in horticulture, and reasonable prices as well, I unequivocally recommend Jerell (919-349-2457) for all lawncare and landscaping needs.

My entire experience with Stone, Soil and Shrubs has been excellent. I’ve happily contracted lawn service with this company for about ten years. The monthly service plan we have includes all mowing, trimming, all fertilizer and chemical applications, all pruning, and twice yearly seeding as needed. In addition to this, we’ve also retained them to provide a la carte services such as resolving drainage issues, tree removal, hardscaping, sodding, and the planting and transplanting everything from annuals to trees to entire beds. They are reasonably priced for the high level of service they provide and they are responsive to any query or complaint—and those are rare. Most of my immediate neighbors have used them either on contract or for single-service jobs. I have never heard a complaint. It isn’t hard to find someone to mow your lawn. It is very hard to find someone who will treat it like their own, and not take shortcuts.

Steve arrived on time for our initial consultation as well as the day of work. He was prompt in providing proof of insurance and answering any questions I may have. He and his partner were nice enough to go around the property and provide information on keeping our trees healthy. We plan on hiring them again as well recommending their services.

Out the gate, I was very impressed with Micheal. The response to my inquiry was quick and to the point, and a price was given based on photos alone. No need to waste mine or their time if we can't meet on price! I would consider Humble Tree very affordable, and an incredible value considering also the great lengths they go to to keep safety a priority AND the wealth of knowledge that Micheal has about trees. I like to learn and as questions, and I got the feeling I was barely scratching the surface! The mix of great price and service would have been enough, but this guy goes over the top with his friendly and gregarious personality. I will certainly call again, and refer Humble Tree to anyone I know looking for tree service.

I had been waiting for six weeks to get someone from our usual tree service to come grind out three stumps in my yard. They never returned my calls or got back to me. I put a note up here, and Florentino got back to me within the hour, came out the same day and did an excellent job. Five stars for Real Lawn Care AND for Thumbtack!

We are absolutely delighted with the work of Carolina Garden Company! Shelley helped us through each step of the process of reclaiming distressed spaces in the yard, and it is now transformed into an edible garden, fragrant flowers and beautiful trees! She is a deep listener, a creative thinker, and an expert in the field.

This is the 2nd time I had Treemenservices help us. This time I requested for 4 Thuja trees to be planted in my backyard for privacy. Treemenservices sent one professional and he did an outstanding job despite of the hot temperature outside. The professional gave us instructions for care when the job was completed and the 4 trees are doing well since being planted. Thank you!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

    • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
    • Read online reviews of client experiences.
    • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
    • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
    • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
