Overall, I had a good experience with Hornet Moving. They showed up on time and loaded all of my furniture in and strapped it all down well. My main disappointment came in the transportation. After leaving my first location, they stopped and got gas, resulting in an additional 20 minutes added on to their clock (and my bill). Considering I was only moving 20 miles, I didn't think it necessary that they stop for gas during my move. However, they took good care of my items and were really friendly! I definitely couldn't have moved my stuff without them.

The four guys who came to move our things were kind, efficient, good natured, and capable. They went out of their way to make my family’s move feel effortless, so that we could focus on the other details that always accompany moving. We initially ran into a scheduling snag, due to a missed email, but luckily the scheduling mistake was rectified and the most important part- the move itself- went smoothly. They brought a big truck and filled it with items from our 1200 square foot, three bedroom home, efficiently moving us from North Carolina to Florida. It took the team the better part of a morning to pack up the truck, with every person working hard the whole time. They showed up with a big cooler of gatorade and worked steady from 8:30am (I was given an arrival time between 8-9am) into the heat of an early July day. Despite the heat they were all good natured, and clearly enjoyed their work. When I tried to empathize with one guy about the heat, he just replied with a smile "Beats a desk job!" Following packing the truck, the guys took the afternoon off and then drove the 8 hours to Florida the next day. On the third morning they were at our new home at 8am sharp, and moved everything exactly where we wanted it into our new home. Our new home is on stilts and has a difficult staircase, but that didn't bother these guys. They also had the heart to move the dressers in our bedroom three times because my husband couldn't make up his mind about where he wanted them to go. Essentially they went above and beyond, taking their work seriously and making our out-of-state move feel more awesome than moves usually feel. In response to the other person's review who stated that this company damaged his things, my only thought is that he either had different movers or this company has truly learned its lesson. Every single one of my important furniture items was wrapped in plastic and/or blankets for secure moving. Absolutely nothing was damaged during the move, except a cheaply made $10 side table from IKEA that I thought might not make it anyway. I made sure that I went through the house and showed them the furniture that was most important to me (mainly antiques that don't look like much, but have sentimental value). I had multiple guys check twice with me to make sure that they each knew which pieces held the most sentimental value, and they in turn treated them with care. Additionally, I packed our most valuable items in our car for safe-keeping, but from the way these folks carefully packed the truck I felt confident that I could have left even my grandmother’s jewelry in their hands and it would have been very safe and secure. I was worried about a big 3x4 piece of hand-painted artwork getting moved safely, but I didn't need to be. The artwork that I had these guys move actually arrived in better shape than the artwork that I moved myself in my own car! I've moved myself across country from Virginia to Colorado to California to Massachusetts to North Carolina, and every time there were things that I packed that didn't arrive in tact - that's just a part of moving. However, American Moving and Hauling did a much better job than I ever have at moving my own things. It was so nice to pack up the house myself and then see a team of happy, capable, professional locals move my things. I can't tell you how nice it was to see them roll up my carpet, tape the doors closed and wrap up my furniture, take apart the heavy dining table, and move everything with care (and in record speed). What a gift and a joy! A big thank you to everyone who supported our move from American Moving and Hauling!! What a great way to support local business, by supporting a woman-owned company where the tough guys wear hot pink t-shirts that proudly proclaim that a woman is their boss. Best of luck to this company, and I hope that their business continues to thrive.

Thank god for these guys! We hired another moving company and they didn't show up on the morning of the we called Move and go and they were there right after they finished the job they were doing, which was within an hour and a half. They were quick and efficient moving our 2 bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor, and it was hot yesterday. We really appreciated these guys making an emergency move for us, I know My husband really appreciated their help (him having to deal with me and my pregnant self) he would have been doing it alone. These guys were professional and quick! #supportblackbusiness

I have moved quite a bit in my lifetime with several of the big moving companies. My experience with Queen City Moving has been the BEST! Tony and his helpers at both origin and delivery were not only professional and efficient, but very nice and friendly! Interstate moves are very stressful (well really any move is) but Tony could not have been any better. He made me feel like my things were well protected. I hope I don't have to move again but if I do I will be requesting TONY MASON again. He went above and beyond of what was requested. IF you are lucky enough to get his team, make sure to thank your lucky stars. The whole experience far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this company. What a GREAT guy! Thank you Tony!

My husband and I hired Bellhops Moving to help us move 3 heavy pieces of furniture. Bellhops recommended using 3 movers which worked out perfectly. The guys arrived ~10 before our scheduled move time which was really nice. They didn't waste any time, were very polite, and very helpful. They had a positive attitude the whole time and completed the move successfully. We recommend using Bellhops Moving for your move.

CJ and Global Moving Professionals helped me complete my long distance, out of state move with ease and at a great price! I moved from North Carolina to Michigan, about a 10 hour drive, and CJ and his crew were fantastic at going out of their way to meet my needs. They showed up right on time on a Saturday and had my entire 1 bedroom apartment packed up within an hour, despite living on the 3rd floor without an elevator. All of his staff were warm and friendly and took great care of all of my boxes and furniture. Throughout the whole process, CJ was only a phone call away and provided regular check-ins to make sure we were all on the same page.

Faith and Glory movers provided a very professional, quality moving experience and treated my items with extreme care. They were very pleasant and communicated idealy. Moving from a 2nd floor apartment across town to a 3rd floor apartment was not an easy task, but they handled it with ease and precision! Great values and highly recommended!

Excellent company !! Very professional, would highly recommend to everyone. This was my first moving company I have ever used and I was a bit nervous about the whole process. The prices of the other companies on the site are much more than this one but don't think your level of service will be compromised. Anthony was great and worked carefully and in a timely manner. I even had to leave my home and run an errand and when I returned everything was all moved out and ready to transfer to new location. They beat me to my new place and to my surprise a 3rd person showed up to assist with the move. You will be very happy with this company, no worries needed.

This is the best company for long distance moving. When I hired Pick Up Movers I was confident that they would do well. It was the sales rep who gave me that confidence when I was talking about scheduling my move with them. Their moving team showed absolute control over everything. They made the task look so easy. They showed up on time, displayed great packing skills, carefully loaded all the products and delivered everything on time at the other end. They were flawless from the start to finish. Highly recommended moving service.

All the guys at Flat Rate Movers were great this last Saturday! It was the easiest move I have ever made due to the quick and efficient work that all 3 of the guys from Flat Rate Movers did. I was so stressed out the night before the move because there was still so much to do, but when the cheerful, positive guys showed up from Flat Rate Movers came right in to begin, I could see they were experienced and confident in their work. The guys packed things up in Statesville and headed down to South Charlotte and unloaded all within 5hrs.! These guys were helpful, respectful, strong, prepared, and able to get a decent size move done in less time than we hired another well known franchised moving company a few months ago to move my fiancé's things to Charlotte. That company did a great job too but was WAY over-priced, would not even fill the truck up unless there were additional charges, and took an additional hour to move less things from Statesville to Charlotte. I highly recommend anyone to hire the guys at Flat Rate Movers- and I am a very particular person with my things-who isn't? It is a scary, risky situation when you hire a moving company because you never know how it is really going to go. I can say Derek, Chris, and all the moving guys at Flat Rate Movers will take the stress and worry out of your moving day....and at a more competitive cost than other moving companies. Let their personable staff take the dread and fear out of your moving day.

Chris and Josh were terrific in loading a moving truck for my mother. The truck was packed carefully and pictures were taken. They packed a 16' truck in 2 hours. Anthony was very responsive to all requests. This is my second move with College Hunks Moving. I would highly recommend them.

My movers just left and requested a review as quickly as possible. I assured them that I would provide then with a 10 out of 5 star rating. Most importantly, the young men were respectful to my husband and I. I am 67 years old so I was on the young men from start to finish - making sure they were respectful of my belongings and home. They wrapped all of my furniture and assisting with packing items that were not packed upon their arrival. I did notice a small hole in the wall at the pick up address. Tight corners so I did not complain. But I did want them to know that I noticed. Other than that, my belongings arrived in great shape. I will recommend to my friend Margaret who will be moving in about 2 weeks. I informed her to request Mark and Stephen. Thanks again for your hard work. Spend your tip wisely.

I had Joshua do a furniture moving job for my mom who was moving two storage units onto a truck and from what she told me they were very nice gentlemen, took great care of her things, and executed accordingly even though what I asked them to do ended up being way more than expected and it took way longer but they did not complain. They helped her out and did a tremendous job in getting the job done even in the heat with no complaints. I would have done a 5 but I truly give a 4.5 due to some moments of breach in communication because he answers text more than calls. But other than that a job well done! Thanks Joshua...

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
