Introduction: Hello! My name is Brandon and I've been playing guitar since 2007. My journey with guitar and music may have very well started out just like yours--by searching for an instructor. After taking lessons I started to educate myself by any means possible--through online courses, playing with friends, practicing, improvising, writing and trial and error. Even aside from teaching guitar and music theory professionally, I personally gain a lot from expressing myself through music, and it truly means the world to me to have the opportunity to share that experience with my students. I've been conducting lessons in person (in Wilmington, NC) as well as via Zoom or videochat with students all across the country. My first lesson is always free and I view that as an opportunity to get to know each other. It's important to discuss how often you'll want lessons, what you want to be able to do with the guitar, what kind of music you want to play, and what practice expectations you have. If you decide it's not a good fit, you don't owe a penny. However, if you decide to move forward, you'll be getting: -Personalized instruction that's tailored to your specific skillset and interests -Any relevant charts, tabs, or diagrams discussing any new concept -After each lesson, a follow-up e-mail summarizing what we've discussed and guidance on what to practice in order to make best use of your time -The support and encouragement from your instructor (me) who truly cares and wants to see you take guitar to wherever you want to go! I'm very experienced with both electric and acoustic guitar, and I've had a lot of success working with students who are brand new, students who've been playing for a few years, and anywhere in between! Whether you've never even picked up a guitar, or have learned to play some chords and some songs but feel stuck in a rut, I'm happy to work with you to build on what you've already learned and get you to a place you want to be. Topics I'm comfortable teaching --Guitar Basics, from Choosing a Guitar, gathering the right equipment, chords, using a pick, strumming, fingerpicking, scales, chord transitions, and rhythm --Music Theory --Chord composition --Scales (and how to use them) --Soloing/Improv --Hammer-ons/Pull-offs/Slides --Musical Modes --How to determine the key to a song --How to learn a song "by ear" --How to use a metronome --Intervals --Chord Families --and much more! I'm looking forward to starting this venture with you! Please let me know if you have any questions. I post some videos of my music on Instagram linked below. Feel free to check it out! COVID-19 Disclaimer: I am happy to be fully vaccinated! However, I'm happy to take precautions, such as conducting lessons outside (weather dependent), ensuring at least 6 feet of social distancing, and wearing a mask if it makes you more comfortable, or doing lessons via videochat. When reaching out, please inform me if there's anything specific precautions I can take that will make you feel more comfortable.

In my younger days, I played drums and bass in local bands, enjoying it very much, not taking myself to seriously. But I always wanted to play guitar, and at the age of 56, I started looking for lessons and came across Brandon. I was very uncertain about getting guitar lessons online, as being somewhat old school I was more inclined to have in- person lessons. Once I started taking lessons with Brandon, I found HIS online classes were great, very easy going, no pressure, very informative and I have come quite a long way from playing a few basic chords. Brandon encouraged me from the start that while practicing for lessons is important, having fun with the guitar, learning new songs is just as important. Each week he will ask me what I have been working on, and I will show him different songs, different sounds that I worked on. He makes it fun, but at the same time, since we started last December I am able to play many different songs, chord changes, scales. He understands that I have a job, wife, family, and on the rare occasion I had to skip a lesson or had limited practice time, he takes that into account, and caters the lessons around anything that I may need to deal with. If you always wanted to play guitar, I strongly recommend you get in contact with Brandon. I could never have learned and progressed as much as I have learning from Apps or videos.

I had been looking for a guitar instructor for a long time and was nervous about starting lessons. Brandon was super friendly and flexible with my schedule and made it easy for me to fit guitar into my busy life. Brandon is extremely patient and takes the time to ensure a skill is developed before moving on to something else. He makes learning fun, whether it's when he's teaching theory or we're practicing a new song, it's the right balance of challenging but also enjoyable and fun. I feel like his pricing structure is also very reasonable and competitive with other instructors. I would recommend Brandon to anyone looking to learn guitar at any skill level. I can't say enough how much I've enjoyed his lessons (after several previous failed attempts at learning guitar over the years), and how happy I am with the progress I've made to date in only a few months. Brandon is the real deal, hire him today before his schedule completely books up! :)

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training • Yes, can read music staff • Acoustic • Rock • Yes, the student has an instrument • 60 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

I’ve been working with Brandon for about 7 months now and have already progressed far beyond what I ever expected. I came in with some really basic experience with guitar and Brandon easily catered lessons to my experience level and has not only advanced my guitar skills, but also my knowledge of music. He is super talented, knowledgeable and makes learning the guitar really fun! 10/10, can’t recommend enough!

Details: 18 - 25 years old • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Yes, can read guitar tabs • Acoustic • Rock • Blues • Country • Yes, the student has an instrument • 45 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

Brandon is an exceptional guitar teacher. His ability to teach and make the lesson fun it a real talent! He makes each lesson fluid and easy to follow and his assignments are organized and detailed. He is very authentic in his discipline of music and this makes every class so inspirational. Brandon makes learning the guitar seem easy and effortless because the work he gives you is well defined. His communication during the course is specific and natural making you feel at ease while learning. Overall, Brandon is my number “1” pick for guitar instructors even over my college professor.

Brandon is very professional and patient. Holds up to what he has advertised. Even though our first lesson was about “get to know you”, I feel that learning guitar will be fun, exiting, and very educational coming from Brandon

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer very competitive rates and they're established for 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 1 hour, depending on your goals and your budget. I'll ask students to pay for the month's lessons up front, based on how many lessons they expect to take that month (for example, if you'd prefer weekly lessons, I would charge you for four lessons at the beginning of the month). However, if something comes up and you need to reschedule or need to skip a week, I'm happy to refund you for that lesson(s). I only ask that you try to be considerate of that policy, and please let me know as soon as possible if you won't be available for a scheduled lesson. As far as discounts go--I offer a free lesson if you refer another student to me and they take at least one lesson!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I will not charge students for the initial lesson/meeting. I like to use the first meeting to have a discussion about the student's expectations, goals, and to communicate my expectations as an instructor. I'd like to know about what experiences you've had with musical instruments, especially with guitar. If you haven't had any, that's ok! You've gotta start somewhere.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've given formal lessons to the public for a little over a year now, but I've also given some basic and intermediate lessons, tips, tricks and advice to friends and family for years. I've played acoustic and electric guitar for 12 years. I also have experience playing the bass and piano as well, and I've recently been working on my singing! I always like to push myself to improve my musical abilities.
