I hired True Results Carpet Cleaning to steam clean a few rooms for me. The carpets weren't destroyed, just normal dirt and stink from every day foot traffic as well as having dogs in and out of the house and the occasional bout of German Shepherd diarrhea (ew). Even though they were a little bit more expensive than a competitor, they had great reviews and the other people had reviews saying they never showed up. I am a busy person and I can't waste my time hiring someone that is not going to show up, so I opted to pay a little extra for reliable service. Anyway, Travis was on time, very friendly and easy to chat with. He worked around my work schedule, which was wonderful, and I was able to get him booked for the very next day. I am very happy with the job he did. My carpet looks brand new again! I will definitely be hiring him again in the future and would recommend him to anyone.

This is for a review for my mother-in-law needing carpets cleaned. Very professional, called when in route and professional when arrived. Thorough cleaning of carpets with steam clean and shampooing after pre-treatment. We set it up and mother-in-law was very pleased with results. 'nuff' said. Would recommend this service to any and everyone :)

Larry did a great job installing our new kitchen sink and faucet. He had to cap off one drain pipe due to our new sink having just 1 bay and then had to hook up the garbage disposal and install a soap dispenser. This was all done very well, solid and with no leaks. Nice clean job! He also installed our new bathroom faucet and it looks great! The bathroom faucet's hot water was running slow after the install so we called Larry and he came back right away to discover some air in the water line. He bled the line and it was fine. He was even so kind as to accomodate my OCD by reinstalling the drain plug so that the brand name was facing forward for me! Thank you Larry! :)

Hot and Steamy is a wonderful company to call if you are need of thorough carpet, tile and upholstery cleaning. This company went beyond the call of duty when cleaning my carpets/tile. Not only were they prompt, efficient and paid extreme attention to detail... they quoted me a rate that was competitive and fair. I am most satisfied with the completed job and would use and recommend them for future jobs. GN

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

    What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.
