We had Stephen with Candlelight Express DJ for our wedding 7/14/13. The prices are amazing. His professionalism is outstanding. I've been to weddings before where the DJ was unprofessional and had a difficult time doing the job because of getting drunk with everyone. You WON'T get this with Stephen! He doesn't drink, makes sure that everything runs smoothly and makes sure that everyone has a great time. He knows his music and he's there until the party is over without his clients having to constantly look at the clock to see how much time is left... awesome! I honestly cannot think of anything negative to say about Stephen. We all had an awesome time. Book him for your next event and you won't regret it!

This is an add on to Amanda's Review of this DJ and my impression as a guest at her wedding. The DJ did ask my boyfriend and another friend to help move his gear during the cocktail hour. We didn't offer to help move his equipment, because we are guests and we were dressed for a wedding. We did end up helping, but thought it was strange. If he needed help, he should have brought an assistant. The brace he speaks of in his rebuttal--I never saw. He did smoke all night. The DJ was outside speaking loudly with the Photographer about all the weddings/parties he was going to do from New York to Raleigh just smoking up a storm-leaving his equipment on Auto DJ. When we were unable to locate him, we started using his computer to pull up our own requests. Amanda would have been better off using Pandora on her iphone, getting a disco ball from the Mall, and projecting the sound with a portable speaker. At least then, her mother could have heard Jack and Diane off of Pandora--I know they have it. He also delayed dinner by 30 mins. while he asked questions of the Bridal Party--for the announcements. This should have been done weeks before the wedding--not on the day of the wedding when everyone is waiting to eat and get the party started. DJ's are hired to facilitate an event and set the tone with their music--and that just didn't happen on this occasion. Guest of Amanda and Michael's Wedding 2013

Stephen sold himself well over the phone but BIG pieces of my wedding day were missed. I assumed professional dj meant that things would go smoothly and he would just help the night to move along. Instead, I got a dj following me around the whole night asking when to do this or that, chain smoking with my guests, and never did speeches. The father of the bride is the only one who had a speech because he went up and asked the dj. If you want a night that is memorable in a good way I would find another dj. A little more money spent is worth it as the dj is a big part of a wedding and Candlelight Express was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!
Candlelight Express DJ and Video's reply
As I explained to Amanda on the phone, the reason i had to follow her around most of the night is because they attempted to coordinate the wedding themselves and as such provided me with no time line to work off of. As far as the speeches go i asked over the microphone if anyone would like to say a few words and ONLY the father of the bride stepped up. When he was finished speaking i (as all DJ's do) asked several times if anyone else would like to speak and the only one to raise his hand was the groom. I handed the mic to him and he said some words of thanks and handed it back to me. As far as the chain smoking goes that is a bit exaggerated. I took smoke breaks yes but made sure i was back before the song I set to play was over. I have since quit smoking cigarettes so this is a non issue. I apologized profusely to the bride and her mother when she called me a month after the wedding to complain. I would like to add that as I was loading my equipment in the car at the end of the night the the groom asked me if I would like to join him and some of the groomsmen to smoke weed telling me how awesome I was. I told him (truthfully) i do not partake and thanked him for his offer and left. It has been said that you cannot please all of the people all of the time, and while i strive to do just that sometimes people just cannot be pleased regardless. That being said i am sorry Amanda was not happy. :(

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I am there for the bride. I know she has a lot on her shoulders so I can be there to bounce ideas or make things happen especially for the bride that doesn't live here.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Tell your vendors that you will be reviewing them online when everything is over. I love great reviews and so I work hard to get them from my clients. I promise it will keep them on their toes and best behavior.
