FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I am a musician, and as soon as I graduated college, I took a year off from work to focus on making a record. When the deal fell through, I had trouble deciding how to go about make a living. I was looking through the local classifieds and saw this advertisement: 'Facepainters needed for new business at amusement park. No experience necessary'. I've always been artistic, but had never painted on a human canvas before, so my interest was piqued. I made all the right jokes in the interview, got the position, and I really excelled in the field! It just shows what can unfold if you apply yourself. Answering that ad was the greatest decision I ever made, and now I have a skill that just keeps improving with age!
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Last year was my second time doing the Nebraska State Fair. There were a lot of long days of endless lines which are to be expected, but this year was particularly difficult because I was working with the charming company of 60 mph gusts of wind constantly uprooting everything. Maintaining composure in my post-apocalyptic face paint booth, while my whole operation was blowing away into oblivion, was a huge feat. People were still in line tapping me on the shoulder, asking when I was going to paint their children! Naturally, I set up on a hay bale and went to town in my new make-shift face paint booth. I am proud to say that I survived the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. Someone needs to give me a T-shirt!
