I had a "small" drywall job that I couldn't do myself. I had several contractors offer quotes after seeing the pictures that I sent them. A few guessed at what it would take to fix and an approx cost and others would not take the job because it was below their minimun pricing and not worth their time. Juan came out on a Saturday morning and physically saw the issues that I had and provided a very reasonable quote. He worked around my busy schedule to do the work for me. Juan and his worker were very professional and finished the job in half the time that we thought it would take!! I will definately keep his card and use him for additional jobs I have coming up in the near future!! Thanks Juan!!! Job VERY well done!!

When Kenneth learned that I would be paying for this project out of my own pocket, he worked hard to make this much less painful for me. Many other contractors simply walked away. Thanks Kenneth!!

Payed full price plus a little more as I felt bad it was a snow day. And he didn’t take everything to haul away. So I payed and still was out chopping up paneling that wasn’t hauled away.

When I looked to hire someone for the renovation work in my bathroom I had three separate contractors do a site visit to review the scope of work so I could walk through the job and my expectations with each one of them in order for them to provide a bid for the work. Kurt's consistent punctuality started with that first site visit and continued until the completion of the work. His bid for the work contained enough detail to assure that he understood the scope of the project for a competitive price. During the initial site visit he demonstrated the hands on knowledge required for the work through his understanding and questions concerning my intentions on drywall work, vanity/plumbing changes, trim adjustments, tiling and the small amount of electrical work contained in the project. Once the details of the proposal were worked out Kurt got started about a week later as he had clearly communicated his timeline for starting the work to me while pricing the job. All the demo and drywall work was completed in the first two days, with the new tiling, vanity install and trim/finish work completed early the following week. I was so impressed with the quality of the work that I added new tiling installation into a second entire bathroom and some additional drywall and trim work in a third bathroom as well. As a project manager for a commercial construction firm I would highly recommend utilizing Allthingshome for future work based on the quality of their work, timeliness of completion and competitive pricing.

Although we ended up going with another contractor, At Your Service took the time to inquire quickly and professionally about our job. I will definitely reach out to them when I need services in the future.

Luigi did a terrific job on our painting project. It was well done on budget and on time. You'd expect that from any professional painter. What really impressed me was his customer service. When he says he'll do something, you can rest assured he will keep his word. And he does a great job in customer communications. That's rare among contractors - at least in my experience. I would hire him again in a heartbeat and have already recommended him to someone.

Jerry fixed a pantry door that had broken hardware. It was a challenge because the door wasn't installed as it should have been by previous contractors. He made sure it worked! I'm glad to refer him to anyone!

My wife and I asked Bulldog Construction to renovate our main bath for us. It involved a complete tear out down to the wall studs to achieve the results we were after. And with suggestions from Rob, we ended up with a very modern and functional main bath. Friends and family have given us many compliments on it.

As a licensed REALTOR, my business depends on working with professionals who take pride in doing their jobs well. I was originally referred to Barney by a colleague, and have had him conduct inspections for several of my clients now. With his extensive background as a pipefitter and utility company contractor, my clients felt very comfortable moving forward with their transactions. Barney took us through each home and explained in detail what criteria he was looking for with each different system. In addition, his reports are very detailed and highlight issues that could be serious as well as those that are not serious but still need attention, all while including pictures of these issues with detailed illustrations. He has, in my experience, always been prompt, thorough and very courteous to my clients, and those selling their homes and myself. I would recommend him to any of my friends, family, clientele and other REALTORS!

In order to sell my house, I needed to install a "fire-wall" as well as a "fire-door." I had no idea what these 2 things were! The revive homes team really helped me understand what needed to be done in order to install these items. Matt does great work!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

      • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
      • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

      • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
      • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
      • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
