I highly recommend Obed and his crew. He shows up as early as 7 AM in the morning and tries to get the job done way before the deadline. I installed Vinyl Fence and the work quality is great. The crew were highly professional. Generally with other such projects, the crew treats you badly and does not pay attention to the details. However, GMP had a wonderful crew who were respectful to my views and considered all my concerns regarding the project. I got good comments from my neighbors regarding the fence.

I had a cedar fence that came down, including a post that was shattered. Peter came and described exactly the work that was needed which led to a revised but fair quote based of other quotes I got. He got the job because he inspected what was there thoroughly more than the others. He did the job when he said in a workmanlike manner and provided a warranty on his work. Nice guy would use again.

Overall was very satisfied. The price was good value for a large replacement patio and fence. Bruno and his crew were all very friendly and responsive to trying to address my concerns. My yard presented challenges due to pitch of yard and some stump removal. They worked hard to make it work. Took longer then I expected but some delays were unavoidable due to weather and paving company not providing the right color mixture of pavers. And I was not in a hurry anyway. Bruno always got back to me on my questions and issues. Felt they were hard working and very honest.

herb came out and measured this job twice, because it is large. his son john was the foreman and did an awesome job wrestling with delayed delivery of one fence type, while plowing ahead with the rest. to put this in context, we fenced in around 1300 lineal feet, that's about 1.5 acres of land - with a mix of full round cedar rail and post at 48 inches (3 horizontals) and 4x4 pressure posts running through nearly 900 feet of trees and land. all of it was then layered with a 48 inch high black wire to contain dogs (and deter other wildlife). it looks awesome, and they took time to trim each and every one of those circa 100 4x4 posts to make them the same height even with land slopes, and then lifted and moved assorted cedar to level it at eye view - then trimmed endless wire, poured tons of cement and probably walked about 100 miles to get the whole job done ;) can't recommend these guys enough! i'll be calling them again next year when we're ready to do the small fencing around our driveway entrance.

5/25/2016 - I contacted Tony for the removal of my fence, about 200 feet and everything about my experience was up front, honest, and done within the time frame that we discussed. Tony came and gave me a quote on the spot and then the work was done the following week once we had a stretch of no rain and good weather. You don't find a lot of people like Tony that are normal good guys that do good work. I would highly recommend anyone that needs something done around the house, he does great work for a fair price!!

Cesar was fantastic to work with. We needed a fence installed and he did a wonderful job. He is was prompt, gave us fair pricing & very professional. The quality of his craftsmanship was awesome. He was able to create a gate in a awkward corner that was needed to access next door and it looks like it’s always been a part of the yard. I would highly recommend Cesar.

These guys were a god sent. Great work at an amazing value. I needed to fence in my yard on a property with multiple tricky spots, trees, rocks, weirdly shaped boundary, and I had a very limited budget. These guys were problem solvers, getting around obstacles much better than I had expected and not even trying to charge me more for having to do all that. I learned that they also have skills and experience with other types of projects. I’m certain to call them in the future.

First of all, in the late afternoon, agent Hilario Lopez waited for me to show up when I made a mistake about the appointment time and arrived late. Secondly, after I explained the work I needed done, he demonstrated that he understood and I was able to negotiate a fair price. I was so impressed that I spoke with him about doing a second job at another date and also negotiated that price. The first job involved digging up a terribly overgrown, weedy garden, tilling the soil, lugging bags of garden soil into the large plot and re-establishing garden rows. It was heavy, hands on work, and he realigned the 15’ by 15’ fence and garden gates as well. The second job entailed trimming from below about twenty feet of overgrown forsythia bushes,— also demanding work— and Hilario accomplished it with care and perseverance. He executed both jobs exactly as I hoped. You can’t go wrong with Hilario and will be pleased that you hire him.

Jeremias and his team went above and beyond. They installed new front lawn, redid flower beds, mulched, graveled around garage, dug trenches for underground gutters, seed/fertilizer back lawn, and performed cleanup. They even set up above ground sprinklers for me! Would highly recommend.

Jason installed an in ground basketball hoop for me, which was a 2 day project due to the concrete needing to dry. He was professional, reliable, and worked in 88 degree weather! I’m hoping to have him back in the fall to help with some additional projects.

Goody's has done several things at my house and I've always been very happy with the results! Darren mows the lawn but also put up a 6' fence for me last year (fencing in the back yard) and built a really nice paver patio for me two years ago. He's very responsive and I can always reach him on his cell when I need something. In the winter I usually snowblow my own driveway but during very bad storms I've asked him to plow for me and he's always willing to come by and help! I'd highly recommend Darren and Goody's!

From the time we decided to move forward with KD, our supplies for our fence were ordered the next day, and installation was started and almost completed the day after. Even the owner was out in the cold, rain with his fellow colleagues putting up our fence. Greg was fantastic and very kind. He came out the very day I reached out to him and he took the measurements we needed. They worked within our budget and were upfront with us every step of the way. We will definitely be using them for our decking and landscaping needs in the spring.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.
