About
We are unique in the length of our experience, with a senior partner who has been in the field since 1958. Beyond that, both partners are skilled builders with the kind of hands-on experience that means we understand in practical terms how the buildings we design will be put together. Finally, we do all our engineering in house, so we can maximize value for our clients by not having to farm out various components of the design work.

Steve was a pleasure working with for me home remodel and additions. He was always on time and followed through with everything discussed during the consultation. I would recommend his service for all architectural designs. I can’t wait to use Kawalek+Kawalek Architects LLC. service for my next project. Thank you again Steve.

Steve was great. Helped me draw prints for an addition and got those too me faster than expected. Had an issue with permits and he came back out within a week and drew prints of the whole household and utilities. It was ready within a couple of business days. Phenomenal service, I personally will be using him in the future.

I live in a gated community. So any outside work needs to be approved by the HOA. The plans that my contractor drew up were already rejected. I hired Steve to rework the plans so I can resubmit it. He was very understanding about the problems associated with dealing with an HOA and very responsive about answering my questions. I hope to submit the new plans by the end of the month before the HOA's next meeting in September. Whether the new plans are approved or not, I would have no qualms in hiring Steve again for another project. In fact, he has already drawn up a plan for an indoor project that doesn't need HOA approval.

Waw Steve was great, he was patient and so easy to work with. He knew exactly what I wanted and even gave me some ideas on how to make them better. He was very responsive and finished my drawing 1 week earlier than I expected. The city never asked for a revision, everything went smoothly. I will be working with his company again for future projects.
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The most common form of billing for us is the hourly rate. We keep our time to the quarter-hour, and we only bill for the time we put into a project.
If a client insists on a fixed fee, we tend to make it high in order to protect ourselves.
A good compromise tends to be an hourly rate with an agreed-upon cap. Many clients like the comfort level that provides.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It varies a bit depending on the project, but in general it start with a phone conversation or online chat, often followed by a site visit.
Once the client is ready to proceed, we draft an Agreement for signature and arrange a time to come back to the site to take measurements, sign the Agreement, and accept a retainer payment.
We will then draw the existing conditions and proceed with a first draft of the proposed design. Once the client approves these preliminary drawings, we commence working drawings which will then be used by the contractor for obtaining permits and construction.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's of Architecture and am licensed in 3 states.
