Suki was great, I highly recommend her. She'd send me twice-daily photos of my cat and took him to the vet on his visits (special needs cat.) Cannot recommend her enough!

Groomers did a great job. I just love the convenience of it. I have a very stressful, highly anxious dog. The home service is just what the vet ordered. The groomers arrived on time, efficient, friendly, and my dogs were were left red carpet ready. 😎👌

Kate has done pet care for our three cats on two occasions. In each case we were gone for a week. Kate not only does the usual things like feeding and emptying the litter boxes, she will also give medications if required. Kate is very thorough in taking information about the cats so she is familiar with their habits and behaviors. She doesn’t just come in, feed them and clean the litter boxes and leave. She spends a good amount of time with the cats giving them attention. Kate had us prepare a letter to the vet’s office giving her permission to request medical attention in case there was a need. We are very satisfied with Kate’s work and plan to ask her to care for our cats in the future.

Omg Daria is a heaven sent. I have a 4yr old Yorkie that petsmart kept complaining about and actually stated to me that I won’t be able to bring him to get groomed cause he was to difficult. They even suggested for the vet to do the grooming and that’s way more expensive. Thank God for my friend that introduced me to this app and finding Daria here. She came and introduced herself and let Bentley get himself a good sniff she picked him up and he was great with her. I had to be there for him, to reassure him, cause he has anxiety, but he did great. I guess the option of being in the comfort of his own home his surroundings was what made this experience worthwhile. I have to say that Daria did an amazing job I can finally say I found my own personal groomer for Bentley. I highly recommend her.

I could not have asked for better cat sitters! They are professional, kind and are very obviously real animal lovers. Because Jorge is a vet tech I felt comfortable leaving my sick cat with him for a few days and having him administer fluids and medicines. They have reasonable prices and I totally trusted them in my home. Both jorge and another employee even took it upon themselves to FaceTime me so I could say hi to my babies.

The walkers are pet lovers first and I love how they have integrated the app into their service. Managing Daisy's pet care has now become a breeze. I am a doctor and there are times when I either have to leave early or work late. I know where Daisy is being walked and what happened during the walk without texting back and forth. love the convenience of this service. Walkers are exceptional.

I leave my dog, Mae, with Sharon Squared, Monday through Friday. Mae always comes home happy and exhausted from the dog run and long walks. Sharon Squared had taken her to the vet and the groomer for me, too. Its great to be able to focus on work knowing Mae is in great hands and having fun!

I cannot give enough accolades to Dorice. When I was having problems training my puppy wheaten terrier, a few people, including our Vet recommended Dorice. She came to our home and worked with my husband and I and the puppy, of course, for a few hours and by the end of the session we saw amazing positive results. Dorice is the most energetic, upbeat person I know and look forward to our next sessions with her.

Brian has been walking our dog, Scrappy, for about a year now. He's fantastic! He updates us after every walk. On the one or two occasions where he's come in to find Scrappy had gotten sick, he's called us immediately and was even willing to drop her off at the vet's office, rather than wait for us to get home and take her. We very highly recommend Brian Pizza.

Linda is very helpful! I'm a first time pet owner, and before I had time to schedule an appointment, she helped me find a good emergency vet after my dog hurt himself. I have only had one session, but she greatly helped me learn how to make my dog less anxious and has shown how she goes above and beyond for her clients and their dogs. Thank-you!!

Betty's my go-to dog sitter!! I would recommend her to everyone! She helped me with my two poodles for a weekend and often walks them for me while I am away. My dogs adore her so much and are always relaxed and happy around her (to the point I think they prefer her more than me sometimes). She even brought my attention to subtle, twitchy leg movement that my older poodle was making during a walk with Betty- which helped me get appropriate treatment for her from vet. Betty makes my dogs feel comfortable- Most importantly, she treats them as if they are her own- She's a true animal lover-!

Samantha did excellent with my dog Coco. Coco has been kicked out of pets mart and petco for her bad behavior along with multiple mom and pop shops. Samantha was referred to us by our vet who spoke very highly about her. She came and took her time with Coco before she even brought her in the van making Coco and us more at ease. Coco still wasn't a fan of getting a haircut but Samantha has worked with her over the past few months and Coco is doing much and doesn't get streseed out anymore! So happy we found her and will recommend her to everyone we know!! We love the convenience of not having to drop Coco off anywhere and she's not sitting in a crate waiting for a groomer to get to her. Couldn't be happier with this business and Samantha!!

Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (who has appeared on TV shows, magazine ads, billboards, book covers, etc.) never liked getting groomed, until we had a recommendation from our vet's office to try Rita. What an amazing difference! Our dog, Zoe, was always happy to see Rita and didn't mind the grooming process, from bathing, having her hair shortening, and nails being clipped. She looked like a new and younger dog every time we picked her up. Rita is a real find!!

Maggie was referred to me by my Vet. I have a 6 month old Westie puppy and have been working with Maggie for over a month. I find her to be patient with my puppy and with me. She is knowledgeable about specific issues including house breaking, following commands etc. She is not a clock watcher and will go out of her way such as take both of us to a dog run to feel comfortable with it. I would recommend her without reservation.

I'm a member and don't know what I would do without these guys. My Vizsla is the happiest pup in the whole world- three days a week our dog gets picked up by the FFC van and goes to "school". We pay less for doggie daycare here than we did to have a dog walker come to the house. The staff/owners go out to their way to please and they also have the best hours- 7 days a week, and open late! When I am not using their pickup/drop-off service, I would drop our pooch off. It's so easy to commute since the dog park is located at the LIRR and they offer free parking! I can't say enough about Fido Fitness. They really care and offer lots of programs and educational classes for your best friend. They also carry Life's Abundance, the best dog food around! And they have the best prices on their dog food. I save $ buying it at FFC then if I were to buy it at the Vet. If you are thinking about daycare or boarding... or just looking for a place to socialize your dog at their dog park... GO GO GO! We got a great community of people and dogs alike that would love to meet you!

I found out about Vera who runs Manhattan Paw Walkers, through my local Vet. My work schedule changed, so I need my dog Charlie to be walked in the afternoons. I used to work from home, so I did not need any help with Charlie for a while. But when the time came, I must admit that I was concerned about finding the right dog walker for us in this big city like New York. But my worries dissipated eventually after I met Vera. Charlie was fond of her since our initial meeting. And I saw why! Vera has a natural feeling with dogs. She carries herself with serenity and assertiveness. I was also glad to see how she provided more references from other clients without being asked for it, and despite that she already came well-recommended! After eight months, I've seen how Vera has this urgency to make sure that Charlie and I are happy. Charlie totally loves her!! And I am relieved to had the certainty that our beloved pup is in good hands! I without hesitation recommend Vera.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

          • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
          • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
          • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
          • What are your different walk routes?
          • When will you pick up and drop off?
          • How will we communicate?
          • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
          • What’s your cancellation policy?
          • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
          • How and how often do I pay you?
          • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

          What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

          What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

          • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
          • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
          • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
          • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
          • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
          • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
