I recently received a green card recently and because of Minwon involvement, the process run very smoothly. My case might not have been very complex, however it really helped having somebody experienced managing it. I am Polish national and I entered the US under L1A visa from London, UK. I got married to the American national whom I met in London and we moved together to NYC. I was nervous my company might terminate me prior my green card gets approved. Minwon explained a few scenarios to me and that put me at ease. In addition, it was imperative to me being able to travel outside of the USA while waiting for green card - obtaining travel documents and Employment Authorization Card was well worth it . I managed to stay in active L1A status through out the process which made the interview itself easier, but being fully prepared and aware of risk helped. I am a busy person, having somebody independent to organize all the paperwork ( A LOT OF IT) was very helpful. I felt like I could trust Minwon and in my opinion his services are very reasonably priced. The whole process from date of filing till the interview took 6 months. I was advised during the interview my case has been approved and I received physical green card a few weeks later. I would recommend Minwon Services to anybody seeking independent immigration support.

My experience with RelisLaw. In my recent interaction with Dr. Relis, requesting advice on US immigration Visa process, one immediately feels a personal connection with Dr. Relis and her team. Her approach was open, warm and full of good advice. No question went unanswered. Her clear manner of communication along with obvious knowledge of the laws and rules, provided me with 100% satisfaction. The fairness of price, quality of their work and more importantly, Dr. Relis’ human touch has definitely paved the way for a more secure future. I would highly recommend Dr. Relis and her company to anyone requiring Immigration Assistance. Vanessa

This is late in coming but still relevant. Arif and I originally met over the internet via mutual friends several years ago. He is from Pakistan and I am from California, USA. We immediately fell in love. While we have many differences (Muslim versus Christian, younger versus older, bi-sexual versus gay, etc.) we knew we would spend our lives committed to each other. We have more in common then our differences and the differences make our life that much more exciting. Our love was strong from the beginning, and we decided that insurmountable problems would not stand in our path. Shortly after deciding on our life commitment I read an internet advertisement from the Law Offices of Darryl L. Wynn and their services to the gay community for "legal help with immigration to marry your fiancé". What great timing for Arif and myself. Darryl's legal team was there at the right time and quickly returned our initial communication. His team is based in New York City and we are in San Francisco, however the distance was insignificant. His rates were very reasonable and we quickly came to an agreement for their services. We have friends who have done this work of bringing their international spouse to the US on their own, however I don't believe we could have navigated the avalanche of paperwork and filings without the professional help of Darryl and his excellent legal team. We have been married just over a year and we are happy with our new found life here in California. With the current political climate what we went through has become even more difficult. Whoever states that the USA vetting of foreigners applying for a US Visa, is lax has not had to suffer the process. If we had to do it again we would contact the Law Offices of Darryl L. Wynn. We owe them our happiness.

Paul gave me some very frank and sage advice on how to handle or not handle my post-judgement modification situation. I believe he firmly gives his opinion and advice based on his experience in handling similar situations in the past. Thank you Paul!

I recommend Silvia Gaviria to anyone who needs smart guidance and action with immigration law matters. I needed such a lawyer and Ms. Gaviria was that lawyer. I married in Central America and needed to get a marriage petition drafted to get my wife into the United States and to start the road to legal residence. In each interview, I found Ms. Gaviria very thorough in getting from me every necessary fact to draft the best petition! She was very patient and so organized that it took her little time to get my facts together. Today, my wife has a proper green card and is authorized to work. We now continue to work with Ms. Gaviria to get my wife citizenship. We are very happy with her work, and so I have no hesitation reviewing Ms. Gaviria as a standout immigration lawyer.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

    • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
    • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
    • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
    • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
    • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
    • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
