FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing is based on time, equipment and any associated travel expense. Photography equipment is very expensive to buy and maintain. I break down the cost into the average lifespan of the equipment so you get a cost per shot. Then the time involved in the physical shoot + the time it takes to process the images. Some people desire raw images straight out of the camera thus saving some on the cost.. Others require heavy retouching which takes time to process and will cost more. Example - Client wanted to shoot against a blue background, so we set up blue to shoot against and very little needed to be done in post processing and I gave a price. Once the shoot was concluded, she decided she wanted several different backgrounds in the shots we already took. I quoted a different price for this and she had a hard time understanding why. I explained that to digitally remove the blue in each shot and replace it with something else would require an additional 4-5 hours worth of work not included in the initial quote.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a member of NAPP (National Association of PhotoShop Professionals) and use their classes and resources to keep on the cutting edge of photo processing.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out in web design and grew tired of working with other people's pictures because the quality rarely matched what I needed. So I bought a camera and began to learn all I could about photography. After several years of workshops and learning from accomplished professionals, I left web design behind and began my career as a professional photographer.
