We had a clogged drain in the kitchen. The kitchen is in the process of remodeling, so the sink was not there and no water to flush down the drain. I communicated with Jason via text messaging, sending him pictures and voicing my concerns. He answered all my questions very patiently even before arriving for the job. At the job, he was very professional and careful. He cleaned the drain, used the camera to check it, and cleaned up after he was done. He said that he warranties his work and we can call him back if anything goes wrong after the sink is installed. (The sink has not been installed yet, as of today.) We are very satisfied with his service and will be calling him again for future projects.

The Tech from Service Guys arrived at our home early on a Saturday morning, just as we had requested. He explained how he would make the repairs and got to work right away. We were disappointed with the resealing of a sink drain. The finished project looked sloppy and messy. We could have done that ourselves, but we hired a professional thinking he would do a better job than us. The other projects (fixing a broken kitchen drawer, installing a drawer pull, and hanging two kitchen shelves) were done quickly and to our satisfaction. We only wish the resealed drain was cleaner, but otherwise we are glad we hired the Service Guys.

Hired Walter to check out a clogged toilet drain. Turned out it was a broken main sewer line which he was also able to repair. I liked how he is very systematic in his approach to identify the problem and his philosophy to only fix what is broken. Also explains and communicates well and works with you. Since he can do a lot of very different tasks, I am sure I will hire him in the future and can also recommend him to everybody.

Robert with BlueKrait Drain and Sewer Cleaning was a positive experience. We had a drain clog which the previous plumber was unable to resolve. Robert was able to diagnose pretty quickly upon arrival that his larger snake was needed and with in 30-45 minutes of use was able to unclog the drain. Very pleased and would recommend Robert for tough, stubborn drain clogs to anyone in need.

Our drain pipes in our bathroom sink had corroded and basically fallen apart. Since this was a semi-emergency situation, we needed a plumber who could come within a day or two. Eddie was able to make time for us and came right on time. I had sent him a photo of the situation and he came fully prepared with all the right parts. After the job was completed, he noticed that the sink was totally clogged, a new problem. He literally stayed another two hours (!) trying to trouble shoot, since the clog had nothing to with his work or the initial problem. He did not ask for extra payment and explained that he just wanted to make sure all was good and we were satisfied. At the end of the day, all was good, and we will definitely call on him again for our next plumbing job.

David is extremely informative and professional in his trade, he provided detail walk though on how to problem solve the situation. He explains and let his client decide the solutions best suited for them. He is thorough in until clogging my toilet from the main sewer line and show the results, and preventative measure as he does it. Highly recommended, and will hire him in any future plumbing work and advice.

Mike was a fantastic handyman who helped us unclog our shower drain. We had a lot of standing water that simply wouldn't drain no matter how many anti-clogging methods we tried. After wasting a lot of time and money, we contacted Mike and had him come over to help us. He was professional, friendly, and efficient - and best of all, got the job done quickly! Would definitely hire again.

My partner and I just moved to NJ from NC and had quite a bit of repairs and upgrades we needed to complete on the new home we purchased. One such upgrade was venting the dryer. This home was built in 1892 so needless to say, the original architectural plan did not include a dryer. The previous owners installed a gas line - but where the gas line had to run to attach to the kitchen stove, made for a really poor location in the basement in regards to venting the dryer. Before Nick came, he let me know a price for a best case scenario, which I appreciated because had he named a price over my budget, it would have given us both the opportunity to cancel the estimate so as not to waste time. Nick arrived on-time for the estimate and at first it was pretty tricky to find a solution for venting the dryer without completely tearing up the ceiling and walls. Nick was persistent in finding though and was able to devise a plan of going through an old nonfunctional window that was hidden and covered. I hired him to complete the dryer venting and also uncap the gas line and install a hose in preparation for the dryer installation. On the day of the project, Nick arrived on time (7:30am on a Saturday) It took him about 2.5 hours to complete everything. He did a fantastic job. One strength I want to highlight is that Nick not only gets the job done, and does it well, but also takes pride in the aesthetics of his work. He could have easily vented the dryer in a way that exposed the pipe all the way along the ceiling and through the window, but instead he figured out a way to fish it under the sheet rock for a cleaner look. He also cleaned his work space completely - which I have found to be rare for contractors in this area. I have had many contractors who were ready to walk out the door without cleaning up their mess and would have done so had I not asked them to clean up before they go. I also want to highlight that I had a sewage pipe issue in the basement prior to his dryer venting project. Nick also does plumbing so I called him at 4pm and he was at my house by 8pm. People who who have hired folks for sewage pipe leaks know that cleaning up the sewage is not part of the job. Nick was willing to clean and sanitize on top of snaking the pipes and clearing them of clogs for a reasonable price. Nick has been great to work with and does great work. I have already hired him to take care of some other projects around the house (installing a shower door, clearing debris in the backyard). Glad we found a go-to handyman for our new home!

Hired Gio to replace the leaking water heater. I have previously worked with Gio so I decided to work with him again. Gio is very professional and does things thoroughly. He not only replaced the water heater, but also checked for other leakage, flush the pipe, and cleaned the floor when the job was done. Highly recommend.

Mr Roman has been one of the best contractors I've found on this app! After going through three plumbers he finally diagnosed the problem and completely fixed it so that the sewer ejector system is working and no more flooding problems. He did the work in a day, repaired any holes in the Sheetrock so that it looks brand new and cleaned up after his work. I hired him to solve some other problems that other plumbers had given up on and he tackled the jobs. I will consider him my go to call whenever I need help on my house from now on!

One of the nice things (and there are many!) about dealing with Nationwide Plumbing Sewer & Drain Piping and Heating, is that from your original phone call, to installation, repair or maintenance, you are working with Krista, Plumber and Heating Expert. Other places will send "whomever" they have available "whenever" they want to. You don't want that situation for your precious home. Krista will skillfully advise you, give you options, and send the right person to do the repair or installation. Honest professionals with excellent integrity. Came by to look into a shower plumbing issue I was having on short notice. Arrived early and worked very efficiently. Communication was excellent throughout. Would highly recommend.

The sewer pipe that leads to my toilet started to leak a few months ago and I decided to call Cajeton after hearing about him from friends who said he does great work. So after speaking to him and telling him that I feared the pipe is going to break, due to a crack I discovered on the pipe. Cajeton came to my house immediately and assessed the problem. He was already prepared with equipment he needed to fix the pipe. After an hour or so my pipe was leaking no more! I must say I was impressed at how diligently And quickly he worked. Since fixing my pipe it has not leaked again. I would definitely use Cajeton for for any other plumbing issues that may come up again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
