First time using My Best Party and they were great! The kids loved them and so did the big kids. Everything was done on time and they told me ahead of time of what was going to happen next. Everyone loved the face painting, glitter tattoo, the popcorn machine, the cotton candy machine and of course the balloon twisting. They were really good with their face painting - even the big kids got them. Above all they were super nice - I would use them again.

Shweta did a great job with my henna! I brought pictures of a design just so she could see what I liked, and she was able to do the exact design for me. She was quick, professional, and the most reasonably priced quote that I received. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is that my henna faded quickly in some spots, but I would attribute that to the fact that it's winter and my hands are kind of dry. I would highly recommend Shweta!

Amy was amazing! Her talent as a henna artist is top-rate. Her kind easy-going presence was a wonderful addition to our event. She did henna for a dozen girls at my 13 year old daughter's birthday party. The girls felt comfortable with her and enjoyed their time with her, and the LOVED their henna tattoos. I would definitely hire her again and completely recommend her.

Donna, arrived on time with no problems with directions lifting a burden from my shoulders being able to have to confidence that she could handle herself without need from me. Her attitude from greeting me and then my quests was outstanding. She had patience that I wish I had only 10% of. She was able to make all of our guest; as young as 2 and as mature as 63 to get something done, which proved to the younger children that this would not hurt and there was nothing to be scared of. Some of my guest had to get their paintings done twice because the fun they were having in the pool. Donna not only made the time to redo these children's faces, but she also made the time to give a lot of the adults a second tattoo or a second painting. Her artistic talent is something I couldn't do if I sold my soul for the talent...that along with her high paced energetic attitude just made people want to flock to her. I originally hired Donna for 90 minutes, however it wound up she wouldn't finish unto closer to 2 hours, of course checking with me first, showing me that she had respect for my funds and time frame for our party. I gave her the full payment for 2 hours and a $30 tip, which I only hope did not offend her. I would gladly recommend her to anyone for any event. There was just something about having it done that brought all of us (some new friends, some old) feel closer and more comfortable. I would even invite her to do and hour or 2 at my up coming wedding, just to see if people have something else to do to entertain themselves. Really worth the time, money and effort. Wouldn't have changed anything...well maybe I would have tried to feed her more as she was so busy I felt so bad that she never took a break. I wish her so much luck in this career choice, whether it be FT or PT...there r not too many times u can feel like a child again and have it be socially acceptable. Bravo to Donna!!! JOSH

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

  • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
  • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
  • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.
