I would recommend these movers 100% to everyone. They were on time and perfect. They make us feel the importance and quality service they provide to their customers the best. And that's what I felt. Now m in need of another move for long distance from NJ to Michigan. So, I am going to hire them again without an hestitation. Thank you simply moving team for the best service. I moved from a one bedroom house to a small apartment. The movers were fast and efficient. They carefully handled everything, from the smallest box to the couch that had to be disassembled. They were patient with both me and my dog. I would use them again and highly recommend. Thanks for great service!

Movers were fast, friendly and efficient and I appreciated the care they gave to my furniture. They even recommended how best to set up the room. Movers arrived at the tail end of their estimated arrival time but emailed me at the beginning of their time frame to let me know. I would definitely use them again.

After numerous moves in the past years i have become very cautious about the quality of service that moving companies provide. But Great Movers provided me the best service i ever had. On moving day i received a call from these guys explaining that they are done with the earlier move so if i am ready they can come sooner than the moving time. I agreed to the earlier time and moving team arrived within half an hour. There were 2 movers for my condo. They put plastic wrappings around my mattress, padded covers around television and properly wrapped other things also. They moved all of my items through stairs since my old condo was in walk up building and moved to my new apartment using elevator. Everything was in its shape and there was damage or scratch. They were very fast and professional. I am glad now i know a moving company who can safely move you and i will be using them in future again.

Dariusz was prompt in coming out and giving me a price quote. They removed several items, some large and miscellaneous from my 3rd floor attic. The movers did a great job and were very nice. The price was reasonable. I would certainly recommend them.

If I could give Jason six stars I would. From the get go I was impressed with the very fair quote that he gave me especially in comparison to other quotes I was getting from various moving companies. He was scheduled to arrive on the day of my move at 9 am and actually showed up early! I've never had that happen with movers before. Jason and Julio were very friendly and they made sure to be very careful with each item that was moved. I had them make two stops to pick things up before coming to the apartment I was moving in to. It was a seven floor walk up and they dealt with it incredibly (didn't even complain once :)). I always hate moving and the stress that comes along with it and I can say in all honesty that using Jason completely minimized the stress and made everything go smoothly. It was a huge relief. I would definitely recommend him to anyone and would use him again in a heartbeat.

The whole process was seamless and efficient from the beggining. A representative made sure to be available and answer all of my questions, responding promptly and in detail. When move day came, the movers were on time, they made sure to confirm every detail again and began work on the spot. They were fast, careful and honestly the whole experience was impressive. Within 3 hours I was at my new place ready to go. It was all extremely affordable considering what other moving companies were willing to charge. It helped to have everything packed and ready to go, but I would definitely hire them again for my next move.

Movers were 30 min late, but were very apologetic and it didn't hinder the moving. Both were very polite and friendly. They were very very careful and surprisingly fast. I was extremely please. Communication with the company was shockingly fast--they're extremely responsive. Typically I would get a response within 5-10 minutes. They were as flexible as possible given my moving situation and the price was fair. Overall I am very very very pleased and if I move within the area again, I will definitely use these guys again if I can. Best moving experience I've had thus far.

Brig and his team were fantastic— friendly, prompt, rolled with the punches when there were changes to both the schedule and available parking. They came prepared with tons of blankets, wrap, tape and boxes which were much appreciated for my last minute items and other things I had overlooked/was underprepared for and they did an amazing job preparing my more fragile items for transport. Every. Single. Item. arrived in the exact same condition it started in, no scratches, no breaks, no wobbly loading or close calls. The guys have a great rapport with each other which translates into total efficiency in their process. Both of my dogs loved the whole crew, all three gents are fun to chat with during those inevitable stretches of waiting that happen during all moves and the pricing can’t be beat. While I plan to stay in my new digs for quite awhile, I will be spreading the word and recommending 3 Brothers Family Moving to anyone I encounter looking for recommendations for professional, affordable and kind movers here in the city.

Redhat Moving team did an excellent job moving my 1 bed room apartment from NYC to Pennsylvania. The team was very professional and handled all the furniture with care. Sergiu was a great communicator and let me know about the progress of the move to PA and responded to all messages quickly. Upon arrival the team unloaded the truck very quickly and put the things in the apartment where we asked them to put to. They also assembled the furniture and left everything in a perfect condition. This is a hardworking and professional team! I would totally recommend RedHat Moving and will book them again in case we are moving again.

I waited until the last minute to plan my move (days before), and Moved help me figure out everything from clothing donations to negotiating a great price on quality movers. This was also my first time using movers and my Moved moving assistant, Erin, was able to answer all of my questions about the process. Truly all I had to do was download the app, tell them what I needed and they made it happen. App is also very easy. Overall great and would definitely use them again/recommend to others stressed about a move!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
