Wow. Mike is really an amazing handyman. I initially hired him to do some drywall work and patching in some areas. After we met him and realized how much he can do, we hired him to do: kitchen backsplash, retiling both bathrooms, changing multiple electrical outlets to decora, refinishing stair railing, changing door knobs throughout the house and crown moulding. He is in the middle of retiling and we are extremely happy with the detail and care he takes in him work. He's a very friendly guy with a great personality on top of his excellent work ethic. He cleans up after himself everyday and is very punctual. I highly recommend him.

My apartment was starting to show drywall seams and cracks and really needed a fresh coat of paint throughout. Greivin did an amazing job, the ceiling looks brand new, the paint turned out beautifully. Throughout the process he went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect. Would highly recommend Greivin to anyone!

Frank was on time, courteous, professional and incredibly thorough. Even though the project wound up including a few extra items (i.e. re-taping some of the drywall), Frank stuck to the agreed-upon price for the project. And when I pointed out that something didn't look right to me, he went out of his way to make sure it was fixed and to my liking before he left. He even cleaned up and swept before leaving! I've already recommended Frank to family and friends.

Sonny Vujac of Dino and sons could not have been lovelier to work with Not only did he have the most affordable pricing but the quality of the job we got and the attention to detail was terrific Sonny worked with us every step of the way and made the experience as seamless as possible. We hired him to do just a paint job but we're so pleased we expanded the scope of the project to include floor refinishing tile flooring and numerous other things A pleasure start to finish We would not hesitate to recommend Dino and sons again

Excellent. I just have to say that Marcelo did an absolutely incredible job for me recently. He really takes customer's satisfaction seriously and through every step he would check with me and kept me updated. Our bathroom suffered extensive ceiling and wall damage from a broken water pipe, Marcelo did an impeccable job fixing the damage replacing drywall, and painting with exceptional attention to detail throughout the entire process , Marcelo also painted my Mom's house interior, the job turned out beautifully and I cannot recommend Marcelo and his team highly enough.

Melvin and his team did an excellent work in repairing the drywall cracks and reinstalling the baseboard. The baseboard I had was not long enough to cover, so his team member actually went to Home Depot to pick one for me, which really helped my time. Melvin is a very detail-oriented person. I expected he would do some touch-ups on the affected area only, but he actually painted the whole wall because he wanted it to be perfect. Also, the price he quoted was very reasonable. I would definitely work with him again and highly recommend to others.

We had our entry way and dining room painted by Marcos about 2 weeks ago. First off, Marcos is a fantastic value and his quality is impeccable. For the same price as other painters, he was able to use top quality paint (others were mid-grade) and patched the walls to make them look like brand new drywall. In addition, the dining room had to have wallpaper removed and even though the work took longer than expected, Marcos was patient and didn't raise the price on us. He is a truly honorable professional and I can't wait to have him paint daughters room and living room in about a month. Thanks Marcos!

Pellister recently replaced my wooden deck with composite wood. I have a small yard with a pool that takes up most of the yard, but Pellister found ways to expand the deck to make every inch usable. The end product was a beautiful deck for our family and friends to enjoy! I highy recommend their services.

Working with Tom was a breeze. We initially connected for a tile job but ended up hiring for ceiling drywall installation and painting. Tom showed up on time, got the crew started and they knocked the job out in 2 days. We were pleased with the results. We had a small hiccup during the job, but Tom was available and helped us resolve it quickly. I would recommend him. Very easy guy to work with and friendly.

Needed repair for water damage in a ceiling, re-calling a tub, and drywall repair in a bedroom. It was very easy to make and appointment for an estimate and started work the following day. He was very thorough, making sure there were no other leaks in the ceiling and did the job quickly and well. Based on my experience I would highly recommend him.

Drosfinaltouch was great and very reasonably priced! I live in New York and our building doesn't have the straightest walls so it is hard to cut straight but the job looks great! I did have some paint spots on the ground I had to clean up, but that is an easy fix. I am hiring him for another job so I would recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
