Introduction: I work with my clients, addressing their concerns and ideas to create a beautiful, functional space that reflects both their lifestyle and design aesthetic. Not only the creative aspects of a project are important, the monetary aspects are as well. I take pride in knowing that my clients are thrilled with the bottom line as well as the design. A happy client.

Remodeling a bathroom can be very stressful, but Debra really listened to what my concerns were and addressed each and everyone and assurred me that the bathroom will be exactly as I dreamed it would be.

Debra is a stark professional and extremely easy to work with. All of her work is thoughtful; creative and beautiful all while keeping function and our lifestyle in mind. She gave our home a make-over that we could never have imagined on our own. We could not be more thrilled with the results! She definitely has a strong knowledge of the LA design scene, so things happened in a timely manner. We would recommend Debra in a minute.

Debra was excellent! I hired Debra after relocating to Santa Monica. She really did a great job on my 3br condo. Debra is knowledgeable and very easy to work with. I felt she listened to me to understand my style and needs, and the end result was fabulous. I will definitely hire her again on any upcoming projects and would highly recommend her!

I hired Debra do to a series of quick turnaround vacation rentals, so I'm most concerned with efficiency, speed, and quality. Debra delivered brilliantly on these 8+ projects, helping me stage for photoshoots, brainstorm alternatives to furniture, and work with very challenging spaces. A true professional.

She was semi professional. Did not show up in our first mtg with pen/paper and her designs were average.
DCN Interiors's reply
I am very sorry you weren't fully satisfied, Abbas. I respectfully disagree with your review of my work, and I can say, that it doesn’t reflect the same experience for me. My company’s absolute goal for all projects, regardless of size or scope, is for project design excellence. I received positive feedback on my designs from my main contact from your company, the Director of Operations throughout the span of the entire 2-month project, so this review comes as a surprise. During our introductory phone conversation, you expressed how you really liked my designs and how you felt they identified with the Flatbook brand. All of the design elements that you said you liked about my company website- my choice of color, textures, and patterns- was evident on all of the 16 design boards my company submitted to Flatbook. In the spirit of helping you build a new presence here, I patiently overlooked the starts and stops, disorganization, and ongoing miscommunication of Flatbook’s initial foray into the LA market. I went above and beyond my responsibilities as a designer, making myself available on the weekends when your Director of Operations had issues that needed immediate attention; spreadsheet discrepancies, changes back and forth from what was included in the budget and what wasn’t. Many items that were specified by DCN Interiors were sent to the wrong properties and many didn’t show up at all (your admin was responsible for procurement) including sofas, floor lamps, accessories and chairs. In addition, installers who knew nothing about basic carpentry/install work putting together sectionals incorrectly. There were so many issues, but as you had said, you looked at your designers as partners, so I approached the situation as such. I offered advice and guidance throughout. Honestly, I would do it again, because I believe this type of approach to business is key to building successful and lasting partnerships. From your review it appears this type of professionalism was not appreciated by you or your team. When you refer to me as being semi-professional for not bringing a pen and paper to our initial consultation, 1) I use modern devices such as IPhones and IPads, both of which were with me, and 2) We hadn’t even discussed terms at that point, there was no contract in place, therefore drawing a rough floor plan was never considered as part of that “walk thru”. So no, I did not have a sketch pad. Nevertheless, after that consultation, I was hired and completed all projects in the time frame specified, under very challenging budgetary constraints, and changing guidelines. That said, as is the case with all of my projects, I appreciate the opportunity and I wish you and your company well.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I subscribe to quite a few periodicals. Also, the internet news groups are a good resource for discussing new products including the newest LEED products available to the industry. I also subscribe to various company websites who in my opinion are industry innovators and leaders when it comes to the latest in product design.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I am primarily a residential designer, however, I have created design schemes for boutique commercial spaces for clients in NYC. One of the projects was for an up-and-coming fashion designer. I incorporated a variety of new materials, mixing different textures with the warmth of walnut and the cool reflective quality of polished nickel and stainless steel. In the end the showroom was the perfect balance between function and creativity...and really that is what a well thought out design should be. I am a perceptive person. I am also a very visual person. It is my job as a designer to know which elements to use in order to create a cohesive design scheme while at the same time taking into consideration my clients lifestyle. A well designed space has to have balance, proportion, function, and of course be beautiful.
