Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: My work stands out because not only I demonstrate to conserve and restore a piece of furniture with the skills needed, always respecting what is original and what needs to be originally kept, but also I educate the client to preserve the piece in a long term, giving him tips, providing him with a summary report of the treatment done, and also giving him a CD with all of the pictures taken of before, during and after treatment. The best thing is to never know what a new client will bring in the studio to restore... In most of the times, a new project brings new challenges, it makes us think and re-think of different ways to solve the existing damages, and that's one of the most exciting facets of this professional field.

We used Heartwood Restorations to restore 4 chairs that are over 100 years old. The work was outstanding as the chairs look like new! We were given a estimate for both the time and cost and Heartwood delivered on time and on cost. The service was great, Heartwood provided email updates on the progress. Outstanding skill on restoring the chairs (I still can not believe how great the chairs look and hold strong the chairs are) combined with great customer service, all at a very fair price! We have other pieces that we will be bring to Heartwood to be restored. This was a Great Job!

Miquel has repaired our 300 year old dining room chairs. He did a thorough and excellent job in re enforcing the seats and frames and reconstructing delicate backs some of which had splintered into pieces. He picked them up and delivered them back to us. I recommend his work.

I stumbled onto Heartwood Restorations by accident. After initially asking if they could repair a kitchen chair with a broken spindle I have subsequently had Miguel make inprovements to the entire set of kitchen chairs to make them stronger and then brought my antique dining room chairs in to have them re-glued and re-upholstered. The finished products are amazing, Miguel is a true craftsman and his attention to detail is a delight to see in an era when people want to take shortcuts! I recommend him to all my friends and encourage you to seek his services with any piece no matter how large or small. You will not be disappointed!

Miguel repaired an antique bookshelf and chair for us. He repaired the glass doors and fixtures on the shelf and fixed the upholstery and frame of the chair. Both pieces are very valuable to us, mostly for sentimental reasons, and Miguel fixed them beautifully and with an amount of care that made us feel like our treasured pieces were in very good hands. He explained what he thought was necessary for the repairs every step of the way. He picked up and dropped off the pieces at times that were convenient for us and finished the job very quickly. He clearly enjoys his work very much and it shows in the finished products. I highly recommend him.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Quotes given by phone are impossible to be accurate, as well as irresponsible. The best way to evaluate the condition of a piece of furniture, and a work of art for that matter, is a careful observation in person, assuring that every problem is identified and explaining the client the need (or not) of repair every issue.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Yes, i usually attend AIC annual meetings, and go to Europe for workshops.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Natural feeling and joy for working with wood.
