From start to finish Joe has been impressively responsive. He also showed a lot of patience throughout the process of working on my résumé and cover letter drafts. Some of my work experience is difficult to describe and Joe worked with me through multiple iterations until I was satisfied with both the descriptions and the writing of my résumé and cover letter. The result is a package that I'm extremely happy with and I feel properly represents me and my skill set. He also worked on my LinkedIn profile and , while I haven't yet really put my résumé and cover letter to work yet (just one or two tweaks left), I've already seen a significant increase in the number of views my profile is getting. Now just two caveats: 1) I underestimated how difficult it is to get these documents right, 2) they get busy. My advice is to communicate clearly and be as patient with LifeWork as they are with you. I highly recommend Joe and the LifeWork team.

My 4th grade daughter is struggling with reading comprehension/writing and has been working with Jill for a few months. Her essay responses have improved dramatically during her latest reporting period. My daughter has ADHD - Jill accomodates her with a lot of patience, breaks and little activities for the two hour session. We are very please to provide an excellent rating for Jill and highly recommend.

Dina was awesome to work with. I needed a new resume after having been on the same job for over 16 years necessitating the need to market myself externally. Dina's consultative skills combined with her resume writing skills were a perfect fit for me. She was prompt, well organized and her end product and said delivery time exceeded my expectations! I would both work with Dina again and refer her to others that could benefit from her skills.

Shalon recently edited a magazine article for me and did a wonderful job. She gave me excellent advice and turned around the edit very quickly. I am currently in the process of writing a book, and I have already discussed hiring her to do the edit. I would highly recommend Shalon for any writing, proofing or editing work.

Dana helped me prepare for my TEDx talk, You Can Eat Your Cake And Have Enlightenment Too. I had to learn my talk by heart which made me super nervous as I am really bad at it. I have also recovered from a severe stutter in my childhood, which made me even more nervous to speak in public. Dana coached me step by step using her proven method, with writing the script to my talk, to learning the talk by heart, and then practicing intonation, movement during the talk and engagement with the audience. Dana's process was simple and allowed me to move forward a step at a time. In addition, Dana was sensitive to my challenges, supportive, encouraging, and had a healthy sense of humor. I loved working with her. The result, I rocked my talk. I was confident and projected my presence and power during my talk.

I am in the process of writing applications for graduate school. I don’t want to be a writer, but I want my writing to get better. Andrés definitely helped. He is sincere, diligent, and thorough in his editing; my essays are more impactful for it. I felt encouraged throughout the process and he always responded quickly to my concerns. I cannot think of a better support team and confidence-builder. Writing is hard, especially if it’s not your job. Andrés definitely helps.

Ms. Polis was truly a delight to work with. What justly makes her resume writing service different from the rest is that she meets with you and wants to get to know you so that she can comprehend what your work history really demands are. Ms. Polis consistently keeps up on new trends in the industry and applies these new practices to her every day work. The best demonstration of this is when Ms. Polis did research in addition to meeting with me about my job field to truly understand the work I do on a day to day basis. This was a great display of Ms. Polis willingness to update her job knowledge and Master her position in this ever changing field. She is an empathetic and great active listener. She listened as I tried to describe all my job duties and was able to articulate eloquently my job duties for the past 10 years. In addition to resume writing services provided Ms. Polis introduced me to a prospective mentor that would be able to help me grow in my field of work and provided me with names of books that she felt would also be of assistance to me. She was open to any concerns or suggestions I had and proactively responded to feedback. I really can’t say enough about her …She also went above and beyond her role by helping another personal acquaintance of mine to network in order to find employment. No wonder she is able to have lasting effect on customer relationships!! Long story short if you want the BEST … hire her … SHE WILL GET THE JOB DONE!!

I am an adjunct English professor and working on my creative writing masters degree. I love to write anything and can creatively improve web site content language or do other types of editing.

Hello! I am a graduate of Haverford College and an aspiring travel writer! I was recently accepted into a NASA program in Houston to fly an experiment in a zero-gravity aircraft. I also lived in a remote area of the Altai Republic, Siberia for a month and a half on a self-designed volunteer project for a wildlife conservation organization. I am a lover of how words are used as tools to craft emotion and personality and have been writing as a hobby since elementary school. I was placed into the highest reading classes all through grade school and have more notebooks than I care to count at this point. In second grade, I had my school bind little "books" for me that I'd written and later on in school, I helped run the school literary publication. These days, I'm doing some tutoring, helping my dad run the family business, and going on the occasional reckless travel adventure. As an aspiring writer, I'm always looking for more work in writing! And that's where YOU come in! Whether you need a writing tutor, an enthusiastic editor of lengthy papers or someone to write some copy for your business, I am more than happy to provide my services and my love of words. Besides my love of writing and travel, I am a scientist and have been fencing at the national level since I was seven. I've run headlong into freezing glacial lakes, stood on the rim of a volcanic crater in Costa Rica above the clouds, hiked remote islands in Maine, camped next to moose in the wilderness and waded through muck in the Florida Everglades with large gators nearby. Someday, I want to live in a tree-house of my own construction. I love visiting new places, trying weird new foods and camping in the woods where I'm not supposed to. Let me know how I can be of service to your writing project, business or anything else that might require writing expertise. I can provide my resume upon request. Looking forward to hearing from you! Best, Alice

I hold a Master's degree in English Literature & Language from Rutgers-University. I will work with you on most any type of writing project (novel manuscripts, thesis-writing, smaller essays, book proposals, admissions essays, blog/web content, reports, etc). I'll do basic editing, write portions of your project, give you in-depth feedback and suggestions; I'll conduct outside research if necessary. How much I assist you is all up to you. I put the utmost dedication into every writing project I work on and believe that writing is best when it's a collaborative process. My experience: I've served as a Freelance Writing Assistant for two years and have worked on a variety of projects including the creation of a book proposal for a nonfiction study of African Americans settling the Western frontier and the proofreading/content-editing of a young-adult fiction novel. I also currently serve as an Editorial Assistant for Film International Magazine, where I proofread and edit content of article submissions. In addition, I write my own pieces for both the online-blog and printed-edition of the journal, while also co-authoring pieces with ESL contributors. FI is a bimonthly academic journal focusing on Film Studies. I have ample experience in writing&editing, working directly with clients to meet their goals. I am timely and efficient, and assure all clients that their projects will be completed within the deadline specified. I am also easy to get in contact with and quick to respond to emails. I make it my priority to be available for you, to take your work seriously, and I pride myself on my close attention to detail. (And as a bonus, I'm affordable! I will negotiate pricing based on how much you can afford, because I understand that writing isn't always immediately lucrative.)

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
