Maria is in my opinion, my best piano teacher I ever had. She is so kind and friendly to be learning with. Each time I have trouble with a piece of music, such as rhythm or just note problems, she has confidence in me and pushes me to my limits. This is excellent, because even if I didn't think I could do it, she knows I can and helps me improve in it. She helped me with my finger movements on the piano in a matter of lessons, which my previous teachers couldn't accomplish. She helped me improve on my rhythm and how to use it information on my other instruments as well. Maria B. is an extraordinary piano teacher and her lessons are something to look forward to, because other than learning a bunch of new material, she makes her lessons fun and easy.
Charlie is a very accomplished musician with an infinite array of music and diverse song list... He is always on time and dedicated to performing for his audience whatever is requested. He also is very open to audience participation and welcomes anyone to sing along..
Great guitar teacher, I'm 28 years old and always wanted lessons, felt hopeless with strumming and rhythms but Brian gives great exercises to improve your playing, learn new songs and have fun doing it
I have been studying with Brittany for several years, and have learned so much. We started with improvisational jazz, then moved on to transcription, and eventually I started writing my own music using the knowledge she taught me. I had only been playing a few years, off and on, and really felt progression. She has accompanied me with piano, bass, vibraphone, and I believe even a flute once. She is quite talented and can play many instruments. I have also seen her live shows, and they are really good. Her Portishead tributes are really impressive and should be seen. It is great to see your teacher actively participating in the NYC music scene. I would recommend Brittany students of all ages. From piano, to voice, classical to jazz, I am certain she can make you a better player.
Sarah Hayes is a wonderful human being and an incredibly talented singer! Have seen her perform with amazing musicians in various formats from trio to big bands over the years. What a voice!! Her shows are soulful and full of joy. No matter the size of the room, she has the ability to connect and make you feel as if she's singing only for you. If you haven't experienced her yet, do yourself a favor!
I am a self-taught 50 year old guitar player who touched various styles of music over the years. Earlier this year, I decided to break away from the same old rock and blues riffs and learn something new. I didn't even know what I wanted to learn at that time, but after a brief phone interview, I decided to work with Leon and I never looked back since. Leon is such a versatile player and his knowledge and ability in all kinds of styles never cease to amaze me. We started with Bach pieces that I always admired, but considered to be too intimidating for non-classical players. In no time, I found myself thinking and playing differently whenever I grabbed a classical guitar. Occasionally we jumped around to touch Latin style or good old blues, and I always walked away with new practical knowledge. Above all, I would like to point out that Leon is a very patient teacher, and he understands each of his student's unique needs, never insisting one way or one style. I would recommend Leon to any level of players, but especially to the advanced ones. We all know how hard it is to find a teacher who can challenge and cultivate advanced level players.
Laura has given me saxophone lessons for many years. I find her approach very helpful to me, and she also takes into consideration what I am working on. She gives me lessons on Skype or in person, and we play a lot during the lesson, utilizing the theme of the current lesson. For example, if I was working on a blues in every key, she would have me review the blues structure, then play the head and solo on it in a few keys. If she was demonstrating how to deal with two chord changes with common chord tones, she would have me play the tune with that in mind as I solo on it. Rhythmically we are working on Brazilian rhythms currently, so she is having me work on some bossas using the specific samba or bossa rhythm during my solo. I start with vocally doing the rhythm, and then do it on the sax using one note, and then do it with the chord scale, eventually doing a solo in the rhythm I am trying to master at the time.I take away a lot every time I have a lesson, and enjoy working on the assignments she gives me.
Shu is just all around an awesome musician, flexible teacher and friendly person. He has been teaching me the bass for over a year and I have been able to play with a band!! He can play anything from blues to rock and everything in between. I have had lessons with other teachers but Shu is the first person I felt comfortable and relaxed with. He just knows his stuff and can teach it a way that's easy, fun and relaxed.
