Introduction
Hi, my name is Lucy.
I am passionate about healthy and delicious food, especially about Mexican, Latin-American, and Spanish cuisine. Although I am new to Thumbtack (because of the coronavirus I've had to move much of my services online), I have over 30 years of experience cooking traditional recipes and teaching cooking lessons.
I have a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and an MBA. As someone who's passionate about healthy and delicious food with a background in chemistry I have a unique approach to the kitchen -- methodic and professional yet free and fun. I can both prepare and teach you how to cook staples (tamales, pozole, enchiladas chilaquiles, etc) as well as more sophisticated dishes (chiles en nogada, mole, etc) from scratch. I have lots of experience with dietary restrictions and modifications. My focus is on high-quality, nourishing, unbelievable food for everybody.
I offer one-on-one and lessons groups or one-on-one. I can tailor them to your needs. For prepared meals I offer both delivery and on-site preparation (although I do ask that everyone preset wear appropriate protections such as face masks).
Looking forward to hearing from you -- vamos a cocinar!

We stumbled upon Lucy's prepared meals through a friend and holy crap, so glad she's in our lives now: better than any Mexican restaurant in the area (including top ones, I'm not kidding). When we were in Oaxaca for vacation last year I had an amazing mole. I mentioned it to Lucy and she was like "Oh yeah, I think I know the restaurant and the mole you're talking about, let me go find what I need for it in the morning". And lo and behold... her mole was otherworldly! I couldn't believe I could have it any day now. Next time she said she'd make something special for us. She came with chiles en nogada, this seasonal dish with poblano peppers, walnut sauce, and fresh pomegranate. I still fantasize about it, I can't wait for it to be in season again. Ever since we have her bring us a meal every week. Her food is great, absolutely worth it!

My family migrated to the US when I was a kid and I sadly didn't learn as much Spanish as I should have at home (my parents really wanted their kids to assimilate, etc). As an adult I've wanted to connect to that part of my background and improve my Spanish. Lucy has been the perfect fit for this because while I am an advanced speaker I am not quite fluent. Like many other teachers, she's a native speaker, but she's also very educated. So she has been able to really push me in all reading, writing, and conversation. We've been meeting remotely now. She's very good and patient, and also a very good, kind person.
