Emergency LARGE Tree Removal This is the first time I have used Thumbtack. It was a very positive experience. We had a terrible windstorm in the Summerlin South last night. I came home mid day to discover that our 50-60' tall Eucalyptus tree in the backyard had leaned over and supported itself on the cinderblock wall. The first company I had called asked me to text a picture of the tree and they would advise weather or not it could be saved. The picture I text clearly showed that the tree was threatening to crush our property wall. The response I got was that they could not save the tree and could come over by 4:30pm for an estimate. Thankfully I had already begun receiving calls/text/emails from Thumbtack professionals. I asked for Jose from Greenskeeper to come to my house. He arrived within 30mins. Advised it could not be saved. He said it was very important to do the work right away because the wall could be destroyed with further pressure from the tree. Bad weather was coming. He came back within an hour with a crew to handle the task. The location was difficult but they worked hard and succeeded in removing the tree, and saving the wall before damage occurred. The winds picked up as they worked. They worked fast. It was a big job and they did great. I will definitely think of them first in future jobs. Thank you Jose, and crew. Darren

We had Mike come out to look at leak in sprinkler system and ended up having the following:Sprinkler repair, bush and tree trimming, general clean up and added decorative rocks. He and guys were there when they said they would be there and even early which I think that is great! They did a good job and timely manner. We felt comfortable with him coming into our home and even our dogs liked them. I would and will use Mike in the future!!

Oct 18, 2016: After a large "Dollar" tree was blown down due to the recent days of high winds, I researched "Thumbtack" and "Yelp," for a highly rated tree service. At 9 am I posted my request and within 15 minutes, Mario, the owner of MBA Landscaping responded. I sent him pictures of the 40 foot fallen tree and he gave me a quote. Ordinarily, I don't go with the first quote, but Mario said he was willing to come out within 2 hours and give me an accurate assessment of what needed to be done. Mario arrived on time and with another crew member. He correctly pointed out that my other Dollar tree, also needed to be removed, before it caused damage to my neighbors house. Because Mario was so professional in his approach and did not try to push the sale, he gained a level of trust where I felt comfortable. I examined his truck and equipment and it was all top notch. Mario obviously knew his business that he has been a part of since the age of 17, and took pride in being the owner of MBA for over 5 years. After he explained everything that needed to be done and heard my concerns, he gave me a fair quote. Not the lowest or the highest, but fair considering all that needed to be done. Mario and his crew member started work immediately and did not stop for over two hours. He explained that he would come back the next day to finish the job. Promptly at 9 am Mario and his crew showed up and worked straight through to its completion. All my landscaping lights and irrigation system worked properly, and he gave me some good landscaping advice for future maintenance. The finished job looks great! What also impressed me was that during the tree removal process, some small limbs & branches landed in my neighbors yard. Mario made an effort to clean up their backyard as well. You can probably tell that I am a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend Mario and his company MBA Landscaping, for your tree service and landscaping needs! Thanks Mario!

I needed two trees cut down right away so I could begin a pool in my backyard. All other company's told me they were weeks out before they could help me so I turned to these guys and It went extremely well. They were there that day with an estimate and had the trees gone within the week. I would highly recommend them to any who needs tree services.

And I couldn't be happier with Bob experience in cutting down a tree for me. He was very professional and courteous. He had the tree down in no time at all. And cleaned up the mess. Next month on this month I'm going to have them chop down another palm tree. Wouldn't hire anyone else. Richard Kearnes

Over several years, I have used monthly maintenance as well as tree trimming, tree removal, pavers, artificial grass, irrigation planning and installation etc. The owner bends over backwards to ensure his customers are pleased and that your visions become a reality. His workers are polite, efficient, trustworthy and hardworking. Prices are are very fair.

We chose Sunscape because they listened to what we wanted. I gave them an idea and they made it come alive. We had an overhaul done on the backyard with new design, curbing, rocks, trees , lighting & synthetic grass. The workers were very professional and hard working. The end result was amazing. We spend so much time outside now and the kids & dogs love it. Only company I will ever use!

Trees of Tommorrow responded quickly on Thumbtack and we exchanged a couple of messages about the project. After giving Patty my cell number she called and they came over the same day for an estimate. Then they did the work just 2 days later on a Saturday. Trimmed about 10 large super tall oleanders and about 12 palm trees 30 ft tall. Work was done very quickly. The palm trees especially look beautiful - as good or better than the large tree company I used to use who charged a lot more. They are friendly, professional, fair and they clean up well after the job. Will definitely use them again.

The company was very thorough and honest. Gave me great advice on taking care of trees in the future. He could have made more money by trimming one of my trees that I had questions about, but was honest and told me to wait until next year on it. They cleaned up and hauled everything away and were very careful of my plants and flowers while trimming the trees.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
