I was a contractor in Arizona for quite a few years and moved up here a couple of years ago to be closer to family. With no real desire to go back to either general construction or remodeling contracting I decided to start a maintenance and repair business doing the smaller projects that a lot of contractors either don't want to touch or want to charge an arm and a leg for. My overhead is low and my prices reflect that. I've been in the industry for 35 years (half as a carpenter/remodeler, the other half as an electrician) and I find that repair/refurbishment work is the most enjoyable aspect for me. I carry full liability insurance for all the work I do.
I pride myself on always treating my clients the way I would like to be treated. Offering quality work at a fair price and being dependable.
Pricing Notes:
Service call prices are for an estimated time of 1 hour. For certain types of small repairs, (examples: very small drywall patches, weatherstripping installs, lockset replacements, door adjustments, etc.. this is a realistic time frame). For larger jobs, I can provide a realistic ballpark estimate by phone if requested. Estimates for more extensive repairs are free if you are in the Reno/Sparks area.

Dave Pope PSCE was prompt, arrived as planned and got the repairs done well. The door area was repaired and now operates far better than before the damage occurred in the first place. Dave fabricated a couple of steel posts that could be set back further for my carport. They look great and work exactly as they should (supporting the structure and giving me extra room). He does excellent work.

Dave's company built some steel platforms and railings for my company's condo project for electric meter access over a catch basin. We are very happy with what he provided, from the permitting to the final product, the whole project went very smoothly. If we ever have a project in Reno, we will definitely be giving him a call!

Can't say enough good things about David. He is a good, responsive communicator and was on time, even a few minutes early. He was very meticulous about his work, did a great job of covering everything so there was no mess. I will definitely call him for future projects.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I try to keep the pricing fair and there are no surcharges or fees. When we discuss the project or repair over the phone, I will try to give the customer an estimate of what to expect cost-wise. If I feel I can accurately quote the price over the phone (and via an emailed estimate) I will do that and stick to that price as long as the scope of work detailed in the estimate remains the same upon arrival. Sometimes hourly will be the better, less expensive option than upfront pricing and I will discuss that with the customer, of course they have the option to choose either.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically, it starts with an email or a phone call. I will try to get an idea of what the customer needs and if I am best suited to provide that. I try to offer the most cost-effective solutions that still achieve the desired results and communicate that to the potential client along with a written estimate. My estimates are typically quite detailed on what is and what is not provided. The estimate will serve as the contract for the work to be completed.
The customer and I will then come up with a realistic schedule to start and complete the work. Due to the relatively small size of the jobs (less than $1000) I will only ask for a deposit if materials (valued at more than $300) need to be purchased.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was trained over the years by both journeyman carpenters and journeyman electricians. I've taken courses in welding, drafting, and I trained to be a certified home inspector and have a certificate for that from the AZ Board of Technical Registration.
As a remodeling contractor, I've done all phases of home improvement and home repair.
