How much does it cost to get a piano tuned?

It costs anywhere from $110-$205 to get your piano tuned. Most customers pay between $140 and $150. Some piano tuners may charge hourly rates. The average hourly rate is $60.

Request quotes from several piano turners in your area for a more accurate cost estimate.

Is piano tuning hard?

Tuning a piano can be difficult if you haven’t done it before and don’t have the correct tools. For example, you’ll need a piano tuning lever, tips, electronic chromatic tuner and mutes. If you don’t have the tools or experience, you might be better off hiring a professional to tune your piano.

Is it worth tuning an old piano?

It may be worth tuning your old piano, especially if it’s highly valued or has sentimental value. Bring your piano to an expert piano tuner. They can assess your instrument and help you determine if it can be restored.

How often should you tune a piano?

Some experts recommend tuning your piano at least two or four times a year, according to the Piano Technicians Guild. You should always see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific piano. And you should schedule additional tunings as needed.

Why do my piano keys squeak?

If your piano keys are squeaking, it may be because something is stuck between the keys. Or, your piano may be dirty. You may be able to fix your keys. If not, hire a professional to take a look at the problem and perform the repairs.

Should you tip piano tuners?

Tipping piano tuners isn’t customary. If you had a great experience with a piano tuner, you can also show your appreciation by leaving a review on Thumbtack.

What happens if you don't tune a piano?

Tunings can help prevent damage and maintain your piano. When you tune your piano, you’re correcting its pitch. So if you go too long without tuning your piano, the pitch will likely drop — which can add tension to your piano’s structure, according to the Piano Technicians Guild.

Can a piano be too old to tune?

Many old pianos can be tuned. Consult a professional piano tuner to find out if they can tune your piano.

Can a piano be tuned after 20 years?

If you haven’t tuned your piano in 20 years, you can still bring it to a tuner for them to assess and perform a pitch raise.

How long does piano tuning take?

Tuning your piano might take a few hours or less. Before your appointment, ask your piano tuner how long the process will take.

There is something definitely wrong with my piano. Certain keys have a tinny, hollow sound. After Michelle's visit, the sounds were still there. Her price was based on her at least tending to the bad keys to try to see what was causing it. So, since I still have the bad keys, but paid for having them tuned, I'd say she was overpriced. But she does like cats, which is a good thing. After Michelle read the above review, she called me and was quite upset because she said no one had ever given her 3 stars, which I had. She wanted me to be happy with the job she had done. So, right after she hung up, Michelle had the problem worked on until I was satisfied. I must say I was very impressed with her dedication to her craft. Others in her profession have good things to say about her, which is a pretty good plus. So, if you are looking for a piano tuner who will make sure your instrument sounds just the way you want it to...hire Michelle. She's worth at least four and half stars.
