This was my first experience with Thumbtack and I was very pleased with Sylvain Marie, who responded very quickly to my request for someone to refinish an antique side table. I e-mailed some pictures of the piece as he requested and he soon responded with an estimate of the time required to repair and refinish a very battered table. He came exactly when he said he would to pick up the piece and returned it a few days earlier than I had told him I needed it. He stuck to his original estimate, but told me that if the job took less time he would charge accordingly. The table is now stunning and I am thrilled with his work and plan to hire him again for other refinishing of my antique furniture. I was especially impressed by his knowledge of wood types and methods of repair and also by the way he handled the old furniture with real gentleness and respect!

Sylvain Marie is focused, neat, professional, unobtrusive, thorough. He delivers exactly what he promises. Refinishing an antique piece of furniture in someone's home comes with built in disadvantages and compromises, yet I couldn't be more pleased with the work that he did on maltreated black lacquer dresser. He restored it back to a state it deserves and one I am proud to own

It was a wonderful experience. I sent pictures of a drop leaf extendable wood table to be refurbished. He gave me a fair price to do the work at my apartment. Once he realized my table had no sentimental value, he advised me it was not worth it to do the complete refinishing job and to save my money. Sylvain fixed the hardware of the table to make it stable for use and I saved the money for a better table.

Not really but I challenge myself every day because every piece of antiques have a different story issues all the time never the same

When I around 8 years my mother send for a week to work with a real antiques restorer and I felt in love with this profession since then:)
