- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In our first emails and lesson I like to figure out how much experience you have on your instrument and music more broadly. After that, I ask you what it is that you specifically hope to learn with me in our lessons. It is important that I understand whether you are interested in learning to improvise, compose in a specific genre, read music, sight sing, play basic guitar chords, or simply play your favorite songs. Given my experience, I have the ability to teach you a plethora of musical topics and how to apply them practically to your instrument; however, I only want to teach you what interests YOU, not me. These lessons are tailored custom to you! My primary focus in these lessons is helping you achieve YOUR musical goals and aspirations.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I began my formal training in jazz guitar with Berklee College of Music mentor and professor Bruce Saunders. At 18, I relocated to New York City where I attended The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music on scholarship. Since arriving to New York, I have studied with instrumentalists and composers Dave Douglas, Marcus Strickland, Matt Wilson and Kirk Nurock; guitarists Adam Rogers, Mike Moreno, Peter Bernstein, Nir Felder, Steve Cardenas, Vic Juris, Jack Wilkins, Richard Boukas, and Rory Stuart; and pianists Joanne Brackeen, George Cables, Garry Dial, and Rachel Z. While attending The New School, I was a member of the audition based Herbie Hancock Ensemble directed by George Cables and Rory Stuart’s Advanced Rhythm Ensemble where I first met and collaborated with young rising jazz stars pianist James Francies, vibraphonist Joel Ross, and drummer Jeremy Dutton. Now an honors graduate, I continue gaining recognition in the modern jazz scene as a rising contemporary improviser, composer, and arranger leading/sidemanning gigs and teaching in the greater New York area.
