FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer lessons on an income-based sliding scale and offer 2 places for heavily discounted lessons for highly motivated students who cannot afford lessons. The sliding scale makes it possible for lower-income students to receive the same instruction as higher-income students. In this way, those who are able to pay full price and above provide scholarships for those who are not able to do so. I hope that this micro-economy can set a precedent in the way small businesses can contribute to equitable access to arts education.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first lesson is a basic 101 course on the voice as an instrument. We approach a song that the student selects for themselves, and work through it in a way that directly addresses the most important technical, musical, or performative challenges for the student. If the student chooses to continue, we set goals together based on the interests and goals of the student.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have done 25 years of study in singing, 17 years of teaching, and 12 years of work as a professional singer internationally. I specialize in contemporary classical and improvised music, but draw from pop, jazz, and folk music styles. I also compose concert music for solo voice and am a music director and vocal coach for theater.
