About
Have you always loved the sound of the cello but never had the chance to learn? Many of my students are adult beginners or returning players who are starting later in life. My goal is to help you build beautiful tone, strong fundamentals, and real musical confidence in a supportive and encouraging environment. I’m Alex, a professional classical and electric cellist with over 10 years of performing and teaching experience. I hold a Master’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where I studied with Alan Stepansky, former Principal Cellist of the New York Philharmonic. I’ve performed as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, played with the Eagles at KeyBank Center, and regularly perform in orchestral, crossover, and electric cello settings. Because of my background across classical, contemporary, and electric cello, I’m able to help students explore a wide range of music. Some students want to learn Bach and classical repertoire, while others are interested in film music, pop, improvisation, or electric cello. Lessons are always tailored to your goals. My teaching style is supportive, structured, and highly personalized. Most string-playing challenges start with core fundamentals and the bow arm, so we focus on tone production, ease of movement, and building healthy technique that allows you to play comfortably and confidently. I also help students develop clear practice strategies so progress feels steady and achievable. Over the years I’ve worked with students of many ages and experience levels—from complete beginners to advanced players preparing for auditions. My students have gone on to participate in youth orchestras, All-County ensembles, and community groups, while many adult students simply enjoy learning music for personal fulfillment. Lessons are primarily 60 minutes long, which gives us enough time to work deeply and make meaningful progress each week. Most importantly, I care deeply about my students. I strive to create a learning environment that is patient, encouraging, and non-judgmental so you can feel proud of your progress and excited about making music. IMPORTANT: I am currently accepting 13 online/remote cello students only. Please no in-person lesson inquiries at this time. If you’re curious about learning cello, feel free to reach out and tell me a little about your goals. I’d be happy to help you get started.

My son has been receiving cello lesson with Alex since 2023, and we feel incredibly lucky. Alex has taught him not just how to play, but how to truly feel and love music. My son connects with the sound and genuinely enjoys every lesson. Alex is kind, patient, and always takes the time to listen and encourage him. Through Alex, my son is learning both cello and a wonderful attitude toward music.

Alex does an incredible job of meeting my son where he is in every sense of the phrase. During each and every lesson, he connects with him as a kid and a person, as a cellist and a musician. He's encouraging and inspiring, and always has his eye on the road ahead. Listening to them play duets together is one of the best gifts that music can give. To top it all off, he's just one of the nicest individuals you'll ever meet.
