Christophers Crew
Original job was to fix a sagging plaster ceiling. Job went well. Old ceiling was completely tore out and a new ceiling was put in. Price was very reasonable.
Christopher offered to take over most all other jobs in what boiled down to a kitchen and bathroom remodel. This is what proved to be his downfall. His time estimates were consistently incorrect and ambitious, though he continued to work even though he had another, full-time job. Unfortunately, this meant that I was his part-time job that was keeping him from losing sleep. About 3 months into the job, obvious mistakes started to bubble up that ate into material costs and he was only working for 1-3 hours per day on the weekdays...half days or so on Saturdays. Glass tile in the kitchen was sloppy. Electrical work that once worked, now didn't.
I let him go and decided to go it alone. I hired an electrician to fix his electrical work who, by all accounts, was furious at his work. Mentioned that the bathroom fan Christopher installed would "burn the house down any day."
I hired a plumber to install the drain/intake for a dishwasher. Turns out that Christopher allowed the drain/intake lines to be installed too high, make me have to tear out the countertop/cabinets and drywall that he installed, so that the new plumber can fix everything.
The shower faucet was installed too far into the shower, and the frame for the shower was unstable...which would have eventually cracked the tile/grout had it ever moved after installation. I had to fix that, and it was my first time doing anything like that.
There were countless other problems that needed to be fixed. The other kitchen cabinets too low, GFI outlets not actually GFI. Tub not center to shower. It goes on and on...and some of it, I left as-is, since it would be too much of a hassle to change now.
I originally wasn't going to post a bad review, since when I let him go, I thought I was just saving myself some time (I could put in more hours than him) and money (it seemed like I could do what he was doing)...but after having to go back and fix just about every thing he's done, I felt it prudent to warn others...and have Christopher reconsider ever taking on a job that's too big and time consuming for him, for the sake of the homeowner.
