Snow Plowing (Commercial)

First and foremost, Ben is veteran, and as a veteran myself, I respect his service to his country. As a business man, however, I have lost respect. I paid him $365 for plowing services for the winter 2015- 2016 season. This was a light winter (unlike last year’s) with minimal snowfalls. But when the snow does fall, you expect to get your driveway plowed in a somewhat timely manner. That didn't happen.... not once. I had to continually text him (or Heather). Many times the text messages were not returned; when they were, I was told "they are coming" or "sorry, first they have to do the commercial businesses so they can open." Yeah, okay, but I paid too! And I (or my wife) had to get to work. On average when someone did come, it was 6-10 hours AFTER the snowfall (of 2 inches or more). Then even if the snow continued, and another two inches accumulated, they would not come back—one and done, despite what the contract stated that they would come back every 2 inches of fresh snow. One time they finally—after 8 hours—came and missed two huge strips, on the north and south sides of the driveway (the plow guy spent about 5 mins or less plowing). I text pictures to both Ben and Heather, but neither responded. What usually happened was that we had to physically shovel our driveway most snowfalls, either because the plow-job was wholly inadequate; it was not done in a timely manner (car gets stuck); or they simply never came. The last time I text to ask if he was going to plow (can’t believe I actually have to ask!) was March 2, 2016, when approximately 3 inches of snow (contract says 2 inches or more) fell – with a lot of ice. After three text messages and one phone call (not returned), once again, we had to shovel our driveway. Ben is an affable guy but doesn’t follow through as a businessman. I wasted the majority of the $365.00 he was paid (365 divided by the 4 times they did it, makes it about $91 bucks per plow). I can’t do anything about that (short of going to small claims court, which I am not going to waste my time), but I surely won’t renew his services.

Hello and sorry you feel this way. We do believe that we completed a soil job for you prior to season that you were very happy with that is why you hired us for plowing. As stated in your contract we only plow every 2" of fresh snowfall that does not include your apron a mess from the town trucks or blowing drifts. We also managed 8 other houses in the same area and not one complaint. So sorry you are upset have a good one!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

After serving 10 years in the US Army as a Military Policeman, it was my time to get out. I was injured in 2008 by a roadside bomb, and at that time I had just had my ifrst child. From then on, I knew I wanted to be close to home and support my family. My younger brother had been Landscaping since 2009 and over the years while doing sidework with him and his company, I knew this is what I wanted to do, Just like the Army, I put together a hell of a team! My team consists of (6) highly trained experienced professionals from the WNY area. Everything from Lawn Care, Landscape Design to custom patio and hardscape installs, my team brings more than enough to the table.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ensure you fully explain to the provider what you want done. If it is an expensive job such as hardscapes, installs etc it is always good to have a face to face meeting with your provider to make sure you are both on the same page.
