This woman hired me to do labor only, but when it came time to purchase materials, she refused to spend any money, as if the cost of materials was my responsibility. She didn’t even want to pay for delivery, so I had to pick up the materials for her every time, including renting a moving truck because she didn’t want to pay the $80 delivery fee. She traveled out of the country, and I still needed materials to finish the job. I ended up spending approximately $1,400 of my own money, trusting her when she said I could purchase the materials and be reimbursed. However, to this day, she hasn’t paid me back, even though it was never my responsibility to cover these costs. The work wasn’t fully completed because she refused to buy the remaining materials. Every time we went to Home Depot for her to make a phone payment, she would end up arguing with the employees, forcing me to put the items back in the cart. This happened so many times that now she’s known by the staff at the Home Depot on Central Ave in Albany. She hasn’t paid what she owes, and today I had to call the police to retrieve my tools because she refused to let me get them, trying to force me to finish a job that already put me at a financial loss, with no reimbursement. She even accused me of stealing her materials, simply because she didn’t see them when she returned—likely because the sheetrock was on the walls and the tiles were on the floor, no longer stacked in the garage, meaning they were used in the job. Additionally, we did extra work at her house, like building closets and painting, which easily would have added another $4,000 to the bill. We even helped her move, without charging an extra dollar, and she didn’t even consider compensating us. I’m now taking her to court to recover at least some of the losses she caused me. I have messages, receipts, and at least 30 employees from the Home Depot on Central Ave in Albany who know the story. For anyone considering hiring her or working for this woman, here’s my account of what happened.
