FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I use top of the line DJ equipment, sound, and audio files. I have 20 years of DJ experience. I also have different packages for lighting, fog machines, and photo booths. These are all factored into the price quotes. Some things that potential clients do not realize is that consultations, getting music ready for an event, making special edits for events (e.g. weddings), special hardware preparations, setup and tear down at the event all take time. A professional DJ will spend between 12-25 hours on your special day. Most people think that a DJ just plays music for 3-5 hours and that's it. Also, a great wedding DJ must keep everything running smooth and according to the timeline. This means working with the person in charge of the venue, wedding planner (if there is one), the caterers, and most important the bride and groom. The DJ not only has to play music, keeping all varying demographics of attendees pleased, but also make sure that all parties aforementioned are happy.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If a client decided to use my services, then I will have them sign my contract. This essentially protects the client and myself from backing out last minute. Next, I will send a pdf or give the client a hard copy of my event planner. This will get the client and I on the same page as far as their vision of how the event should go and what role I'll have in making that happen. Like any outline there are many drafts. That being said, I usually get gigs months out so the first time the client fills out the planner may look very different from what it does a week before the event or even a day before. I have had clients call the day of the event to change the Father Daughter song even the First Dance. That is why I use the planner as a guide buts its not the end all. The client has the final say. I will always be available by phone or email to make any and all changes that a client wants.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started DJ'ing my senior year of high school when a close friend of mine bought turntables. I quickly learned the basics with some help of other DJs I knew and I started playing in clubs the summer before college. Once I went to college I worked on mixing, scratching and beat juggling. I wanted to be a battle DJ. I did gigs here and there and entered in some DJ competitions. I won some and I lost some. Once I graduated college and came back to my hometown, Ithaca NY, I needed money to pay back loans. I started to DJ at local clubs regularly. I built a good following and haven't looked back since. I soon started doing weddings (circa 2005). I also DJ'ed for many local acts. I also opened for well known touring acts (T-Pain, DJ Unk, DJ Envy, The White Panda, and the late Avicii to name a few)
