About
I'm Cesar Vallejo, a certified dog trainer (ABCDT) with over 12 years of experience working with dogs of all breeds, ages, and behavioral backgrounds. I trained at Animal Behavior College and built my first dog training business in Brooklyn, NY — Woofs & Wags — before bringing my practice to Ithaca. Every session is built on positive reinforcement and force-free methods — no choke chains, no prong collars, no intimidation. Just clear communication, trust-building, and techniques backed by behavioral science. I offer puppy training, basic obedience, private one-on-one sessions for dogs with behavioral challenges, and small group classes through my Foundations in Focus program at Washington Park. Whether you're starting from scratch with a new puppy or working through leash reactivity, anxiety, or other challenges, I'll build a plan around your dog's specific needs. I keep my client load intentional so every dog gets real attention — not a cookie-cutter program. If you're in Ithaca or anywhere in the Finger Lakes region, I'd love to work with you.

I worked with Cesar for at least half a dozen sessions on my dog's reactivity towards other dogs. We worked in various places and with a number of other dogs. I found Cesar skilled, compassionate, fun to work with, and think of him as a great addition to our dog-loving community. I have much less anxiety around loose dogs I encounter with both management and rewiring skills!

Cesar is the best! He was such a huge help with our puppy. After about a week with my very headstrong, bitey 10-week old puppy, I was in over my head and thought I had made a big mistake adopting a dog. I knew I needed help. Cesar not only helped me understand my puppys behavior, but he is also such a calming presence. My dog adored him, and he gave me confidence that I could get through the puppy stage! He gave me exercises to work on in between our sessions and tailored our work based on my dogs specific behavior. My dog is such a good boy now, and we have a wonderful bond thanks to Cesars help!

Cesar of Woofs and Wags in Ithaca was a wealth of information. He came to my house to meet my Great Pyrenees/ Husky mix that I recently adopted & helped me with recall & leash walking. My dog has already made a lot of progress since the visit! I highly recommend the service

I call him the dog whisperer. He has done amazing work with my one year old Labradoodle. He taught me a lot.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer a sliding scale of $75–$150 per session to make training more accessible. Most clients pay somewhere in the middle or higher end of the range, and I ask that you choose a rate that feels sustainable for you while also supporting my work. Discounted packages are available for clients continuing with multiple sessions. All training is one-on-one, customized to your dog and your goals, and there are no hidden fees. Travel within the Ithaca area is included.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I start by learning about your dog, your goals, and what you’re currently struggling with. From there, we schedule an initial session where I assess your dog’s behavior and begin training right away. You’ll learn practical skills you can start using immediately. After that, I create a customized training plan based on your dog and your lifestyle. Most clients continue with a series of sessions to build reliable, real-world behavior. Between sessions, I provide guidance on what to practice so you and your dog keep making progress. My goal is not just to train your dog, but to give you the tools and confidence to handle things on your own.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I completed my professional dog training certification through Animal Behavior College and have extensive hands-on experience working with dogs of all ages, breeds, and behavior needs. I previously worked as a trainer at Urban K-9 in Brooklyn and have over 10 years of experience through my company, Woofs & Wags, where I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs and their owners. My training focuses on positive reinforcement, clear communication, and building reliable behavior in real-life environments. I’m committed to ongoing learning and continue to develop my approach through experience and continued education in dog behavior and training.
