Nathalya B. says, "We cannot thank Rabbi Mark enough for the incredible care, patience, and support he gave us throughout our wedding journey. Planning an interfaith wedding that honored both our Catholic and Jewish backgrounds was incredibly important to us, and we wanted a ceremony that beautifully reflected both traditions while telling our story as a couple. Rabbi Mark exceeded our expectations in every way. From the very beginning, Rabbi Mark was generous with his time and guidance. He worked closely with us to develop our ceremony script, patiently explaining the symbolism and significance behind each ritual and helping us understand how the different elements could come together in a meaningful and cohesive way. He made us feel supported throughout the entire process, and we always felt comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas, and finding ways to make the ceremony uniquely ours. We were also fortunate to have our Brominister, Leeroy, collaborate with Rabbi Mark. Together, they created something truly beautiful by thoughtfully weaving elements of both faiths into a ceremony that felt genuine, inclusive, and deeply personal. Seeing our traditions come together so seamlessly was incredibly special, and the ceremony became one of the most meaningful parts of our wedding day. We fell so deeply in love with the ceremony script that we are planning to preserve it in a book alongside the photographs from our wedding day. To us, that speaks volumes about how much thought, heart, and meaning went into creating it. We want to be able to revisit those words and memories for years to come. Getting to know Rabbi Mark has truly been a blessing. We are so grateful to have had him guide us through such an important milestone in our lives, and we will always cherish the role he played in bringing our vision to life. We would wholeheartedly recommend Rabbi Mark to any couple seeking an officiant who is patient, thoughtful, compassionate, and genuinely committed to creating a ceremony that reflects their love and values. Thank you, Rabbi Mark, for helping us create a ceremony that we will treasure for the rest of our lives. We look forward to reaching out to you again for future family milestones and celebrations!"See more

Lisa Gyselen says, "After doing copious research online, I decided to go with Jenn as our wedding officiant for our August 8, 2026 wedding. Her reviews were phenomenal and the video testimonials of married couples proved so, as well.I had a very easy and professional conversation with Jenn on the phone and we hired her right away. She was not only an officient, as it turns out, but also performed services that would typically be performed by a wedding planner. She sent us a questionnaire, 5 questions, so she could familiarize herself with me and my to-be husband to make her words more meaningful and authentic. She called a number of days in advance of the Wedding to ask what colors she should wear so that she would match best with the colors that he and I would be wearing. We invited her to come even earlier than the 30 minute extra time she always allocates before the service and she joined us for a small cocktail party. She was discreet, professional, and lovely. The service was seamless and short, as that is what we wanted. She spoke eloquently, professionally and meaningfully. She then took our marriage license, which she made sure to remind us to get, and actually provided details as to how to go about doing so prior to the wedding, and sent us pictures of her dropping it in the mail in order to get our marriage certificate mailed to us.Hire Jenn! You will not find a better officiant!!Lisa and Gary"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The national average cost to hire a wedding officiant is $150-$200. Wedding officiant rates are affected by the date of the ceremony, the time of day, and how far the officiant has to travel. Some officiants may charge extra for additional ceremonies like unity candles or sand ceremonies, as well as the cost of the supplies. Many wedding officiants have higher rates for larger weddings and lower rates for smaller, more intimate ceremonies. Personalizing the ceremony means a lot to some couples. Wedding officiants may have flat rates for standard ceremony templates, perhaps $100-$125, and charge more for a more customized experience, such as $150-$200. This allows the couple to collaborate with the wedding officiant as they are building a unique ceremony script. At the pre-wedding meeting, the officiant will ask whether the couple plans to write their own vows and how much input they have about the rest of the wording and flow of the ceremony. Additional planning meetings and extra communication can add up to a higher overall cost. If your venue has parking or other fees, you may need to pay on behalf of the officiant. Often wedding officiants can rent sound systems and wireless mics if you have an outdoor wedding location or venue that is not wired. These extras will also increase the overall cost.

To officiate a wedding is to oversee the official union of two people in marriage. A wedding officiant is vested with the power to legitimize your union in the eyes of the court. An officiant also sets the tone for your ceremony, leading the couple through their vows and shaping the experience with the words they choose and the pace they set. An officiant may be based in a religious faith, may be an interfaith officiant, may be a secular officiant, or may be a friend or family member who has received ordination online.

You can have a traditional wedding officiated, or you can also have an officiant oversee a commitment ceremony, a vow renewal or an elopement. Once the wedding is complete, the officiant will ask you to sign the wedding certificate, and will then submit the document to the court on your behalf. This makes your marriage legal. Wedding officiants work with you no matter how simple or elaborate you would like your ceremony to be. The more involved wedding officiants are in the planning and customization of the ceremony, the more they will typically charge.

Anyone who is authorized by the court or a credible online source has the power to perform a wedding ceremony. Traditionally, wedding officiants were ordained members of a religious organization or civil officiants authorized by the court to legally marry two people. With the increasing customization and personalization of weddings, many couples are asking a friend or family member to become ordained and act as their wedding officiant. Wedding officiants can represent a wide range of backgrounds including Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, nondenominational, interfaith or nonreligious. There is no legally required structure for a wedding ceremony, so couples can customize the language of the ceremony and their vows in any way they desire (though members of some religions may have specific requirements). To legally validate the marriage, the couple and the wedding officiant must sign a marriage certificate after the ceremony verifying the date and names of those involved. The wedding officiant should then submit the certificate to the court, which will in turn mail an official marriage certificate to the newly married couple.
