We got a young rescue dog Yasik, a lab mix with a dominance streak, a year ago. Joyce (Bred for Life) has guided us through a stepwise training method in weekly sessions in our house. Yasik turned gradually from a non-stop holy terror to a responsive member of the household. Amazing, impressive, real results. Joyce not only knows what she is doing but she is graced with solid communicative skills and an outgoig good nature. Thumbs up 100%, recommending strongly.

I learned of Jill on thumbtack and she's only been walking our dogs for a short time. That being said, Jill is lovely, reliable, and very flexible in her schedule. I also spoke to her references who only had great things to say about her. I thrilled to have learned of Jill through your website.

I reached out to Josh for help because my dog would lash out at other dogs when we went for walks, hikes, etc. I was very pleased with his work! He arrived on time, earlier than expected, to really make sure I got the most out of my session. The quality of his work is very professional and you could tell he truly cares about helping you and your dog! He is very knowledgeable in numerous different behavioral issues, which was impressive. He taught me how to take control of my dog and now my dog is doing much better socially. Josh also responded to my emails in a timely mannner when I would have quick questions. I would highly recommend this service!!

We cannot possibly find compliments big enough to describe how incredible Shara Shon of Pawz Stop has been grooming our goldendoodle. We tried several other groomers who failed miserably at making our dog look good. Then we found Shara who is a remarkable groomer due to her fantastic artistic eye, skill, talent, attention to detail, and a very sharp mind on top of that. Shara did a superb job from the first try. Dogs love her because she understands a dog’s mind like no one else. And she’s also a pleasure to deal with because she understands a client’s mentality like very few people can. All of the above make her a true professional and places her right on top of her craft. Since the moment we were lucky to find her, we’ve been bringing our doodle only to her for grooming. We haven’t had the chance to try her day care services yet, but when the opportunity arises, we would have her dog-sit our pup in a heartbeat. Shara is the absolute best. 💖👍🐾🔝👏

Nelly is great when comes to help out with my dog Duke. She is always on time and Duke responds well to her presence. I always feel comfortable leaving Duke in her very capable hands. Plus, she sends me a photo of my boy and a text message as to how he is currently doing. I highly recommend Nelly as a sitter for your pets.

It is my pleasure to share the knowledge that I have referring to Latoya Lawrence and her love for dogs. I have seen Latoya interact with many different animals but her passion for their welfare is rare and special. I owned a Dog that I no longer had the time to care for alone due to my new job. I told Latoya about my newfound dilemma and she stepped in immediately to help. Once I saw how well my dog adapted to her I was extremely comfortable and confident with her help. Latoya helped me until I could manage my new schedule and I cannot thank her enough, even after I had everything under control she still visited and helped as much as she could. I highly recommend Latoya’s services for Dog walking and special care due to all of her wonderful capabilities.

I have worked with several dog trainers in the past and Ms. Fukumori is by far the most capable. She is direct and quietly assertive. Her methods are straight forward and our dog immediately responded to her authority. Several days later our mutt is a changed dog, much more manageable. Highly recommend her.

I would not take my dog anywhere else to be groomed. I like that the dogs are not crated and it's one dog at a time. Plus, Joanne is the best.

Giacomo is a wonderful trainer! We got a rescue dog who was a stray and as first time dog owners he was very helpful in helping us train our pup (and train ourselves to be consistent!). Our dog, Wrigley also *loved* Giacomo and looked forward to his visit every week. Giacomo used only positive reinforcement training and was kind and patient. Highly recommend!

We have been utilizing Camille's dog walking services for our two Maltese, Freud and Pavlov, in New Rochelle since April 2014. Camille is reliable, communicative, effective, clearly has a passion for dogs, and can handle our Freud (who can have aggressive moments). The dogs love their walks with her, and are always exhausted upon their return! We are very comfortable with Camille caring for our boys, and highly recommend her!

Mark, his son & daughter have taken good care of our cat, Carmen and our dog, Rebecca many times. They fed them according to their special diets, administered their medicine, and gave them both plenty loving attention and exercise. The Dawg Vacation House of NJ provides much better care than boarding at any Kennel and their rates are lower too. I would definitely recommend The Dawg Vacation House of NJ for all your pet care service needs.

I recommend Rebecca and her business Privileged Paws for anyone seeking good quality dog walking services.

Missy is great. You can clearly see that she is passionate about your furry little ones. My two pups love her and she is very accommodating. I have called her, very last minute, a few times and she was able to fit me into her schedule. I would recommend Missy to anyone looking for someone who to watch my pups!

      About

I am a firm believer if you talk to your pets constantly, they will begin to understand your language. If the human is confident and consistant, a dog will have no questions about doing what is expected. I also believe that with positive reinforcement a dog will learn to feel pride in doing the right thing.

      About

I'm young and energetic, seeking to accommodate not only you, but your pet as well. I know that nowadays our jobs may be too hectic to find time to care for our pets. However, that is why I am here to lighten your load of things to do for the day.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
