I have been doing self study for a few years, and now am working with Fernanda (11 sessions thus far) - she was able to quickly identify the gaps in my Portuguese skills.
She is kind, professional and personable.
She let me know what textbook to purchase, and we utilize the book during the lesson and I use it for homework assignments. The book is an excellent source, well written, and easy to follow along with solo.
I am always nervous for the lesson because it’s challenging for me, but Fernanda is excellent at how she provides corrections, and enhancements (whether she is helping my pronunciation or teaching me Portuguese phrases to be aware of, or different ways to say the same thing).
I am very detail oriented, meticulous, and curious, yet Fernanda is always patient with me as we go over each and every line from the homework, and answers all of my questions with no hesitation.
I never feel rushed, judged, or annoying.
She assigns homework that aligns with the skills we are working on in class, and the gaps that I came into our lessons with.
She is skilled in teaching language and adaptable to the student in front of her.
She follows her intuition along with my current skill, my aptitude for learning, and my curiosity about the language.
Fernanda is appropriately encouraging. She gives praise when it’s due, and I always leave the lesson feeling accomplished, and feeling like I am in the right hands for where I want to go with learning Portuguese.
I would absolutely recommend Fernanda to anyone who is looking for a private language tutor.
