Introduction: Thumbtack.com has featured me as a top career coach in the NY metropolitan area. I have more than 33 years of professional career coaching experience as a legal recruiter and as the president of Accentuating Service. (I was a legal recruiter, placing attorneys into law firms, worldwide, for almost 30 years.) Regarding life and dating, I have more experience in both of these areas than most coaches. I am empathic, practical, realistic and optimistic. I don't believe that one size fits all: although there are similarities among different clients, each is a unique individual and I treat my clients as such. I truly enjoy helping people achieve their goals and I am always delighted to hear about my clients' success. I am especially grateful when a client recognizes the part that I played in his or her growth and/or achievement of his or her goals. This work is not just a business transaction to me. I am a civil service employee looking to change my career to something more fulfilling as well as profitable. After narrowing down my options to two separate fields Laura Leiff helped me choose the more realistic one combining my city and general resumes into one organized, hopefully eye-catching document. I appreciated her idea to include a summary at the top of the resume outlining my best work related qualities. When I met Laura face to face the first time it was under rather unusual circumstances because she had an unfortunate accident the same day and was in pain. Surprisingly she still remained professional not only by keeping her appointment with me, but was still very pleasant. What I also appreciated about our first meeting was that it was in a rather atypical environment, a quiet hotel lobby instead of a busy office. I had a good feeling about working with Laura when I first spoke with her over the phone months ago and she really delivered!

I met with Laura when I was contemplating whether to move back to the west coast or to take a new job opportunity in the New York area. Laura was an amazing resource from the very beginning. Laura is an insightful and talented coach. I was grappling with an important lifestyle/career decision and remembered that I had received a gift certificate for Lauras companys services. After talking with her for 20 minutes, I scheduled a coaching session with Laura. Her logical and practical approach to my issues was tremendously helpful to me. Laura is intelligent, caring, and humorous, and had no problem identifying the most significant issue regarding my decision. I was a NYC high school English teacher; I have been doing career coaching for 33+ years and did a good deal of it for 30 years, as a legal recruiter; I have two adult nieces who have consulted me about various life, career, and relationship issues for more than 23 years; I have and have had friends who ask my advice about various life, career, and relationship issues; etc.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Becoming a professional coach was second nature to me as I have always enjoyed helping friends and relatives with their problems and issues and I've been coaching as an avocation since the age of 30. Before becoming a professional coach, I had been told, many times, "I should have listened to you." I started doing career coaching, professionally, when I became a legal recruiter 32+ years ago. As a leader and as a person who enjoys advising others, I feel that it is my responsibility to help others avoid some of the mistakes that I've made in the past. An intelligent, not especially neurotic individual learns from his or her mistakes. I know that I did. As I recently said to a friend, "What's the point of having knowledge and experience if you don't share it with others?"
