Starbound Talent

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Ballet Explores the foundations of ballet in a fun, active environment. Students will gain a progressively larger understanding of ballet fundamentals, which when combined together creates “dance”. Class sessions will include barre work, center floor, adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro, and grande allegro. Emphasis is placed on correct body alignment and use of terminology. Students will work on dance combinations to improve technical skill, memory, and performance. Basic/Beginner Pointe Students will gain a progressively larger understanding of the fundamentals of pointe work. Emphasis is placed on correct body alignment and use of terminology. Students will work on basic pointe exercises at the barre and and basic combinations in the center to improve technical skill on pointe. Class sessions will involve barre work, center floor, adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro, and grande allegro. Pre-requisite for pointe class is 15 years of age or older. Irene Kent has 20 years of experience performing, teaching, and choreography. Her recent credits include guest choreographer for the State Ballet of Rhode Island with world-renowned composer Hayden Wayne, with performances in New York City, as well as a choreographer for New Dance Group. Irene has performed on Broadway and nationally and internationally in such shows as West Side Story, A Chorus Line, and Cole Porter reviews. While attending Point Park, she worked with Pittsburgh Ballet Theater (under the guidance of Melissa Hayden), the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the American Dance Ensemble (under the direction of Nicholas Petrov). Irene has performed in numerous venues throughout the United States, Central Europe, and the Far East (including China and Japan). She teaches and privately coaches ballet throughout the New York City region and is a certified Pilates instructor.
