I had two Mac book Pros (one for my wife and one for my 11 yo daughter) that my wife tried to transfer some word files onto with a bad USB drive and somehow both hard drives (2011 optical and 2014 SSD) catastrophically failed (found out after returning from a trip). Took them to Apple who basically referred me to Micro Center where they could not do anything and offered to send them to 3rd party for data recovery costing over $1000. Recovering the data was not critical since my wife mainly uses her computer for connecting to work and working online and my daughter is 11. Gave them to Stephen who confirmed that the drives were fried and the 2014 would not even accept a new drive. He was creative about trying to make the best of a bad situation. Put new 1TB SSD on the 2011 MBP and since its hardware does not accept modern Apple OSs he installed Windows 10 PRO and it runs super fast (had 8GB of RAM and the good Apple hardware of the older MBPs-not the cheaper dysfunctional recent MBPs). For the 2014 MBP the mother board did not communicate with a new SSD (probably because the Micro Center people that removed the old one to try and fix it bent the connectors or something--these people did not even know how to get another SSD I had from its external drive enclosure-that's when I lost confidence and took the laptops from them). Therefore, Stephen creatively ran it off an external SD card (512 GB). In the end I have two functioning computers with no data recovered but I figure that is the best we could do and much better than what Micro-center was offering. Stephen is very knowledgeable and kind and came all the way to Long Island to pickup the laptops and drop them and also purchased the 1TB SSD for the 2011 and and the SD card for the 2014 MBP. Overall the entire job for both laptops including the new hardware and travel costs was less than $500.

I recently had my iMac die very unexpectedly. I was obviously freaked out - could it be fixed? What should I buy to replace it? I put in a request at Thumbtack and was so fortunate to receive a call from Steve. He spent quite a lot of time troubleshooting with me, discussing options, and, in short making me relax and feel in really good hands. I ended up deciding to replace my iMac. Steve walked me through options and once my new computer arrived, he walked me through the set up and made sure I was set to go. I'm not so tech savvy, and Steve was wonderful. He was extremely patient and made me feel like a partner. He spent a lot of time making sure I was comfortable with my new machine. He was professional with a light personal touch. All this for under $100. WOW. PS - short on jargon and long on listening! Big Fan.
